​Swing Sideway Knit Jacket

Size: L/XL (S/M)

Materials:

Laines du Nord Calipso wool/acrylic bulky weight yarn 320 m/200g Color 19 - 5 skeins.
Needles: 10 (6.00 mm) OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE

Gauge for stocking stitch: 14 st x 20 rows = 4" x 4" (10 x 10 cm)

Patterns:

Stocking Stitch

1st row and all odd rows - knit sts
2nd row and all even rows - purl sts

Garter Stitch

all rows - knit sts
Rib 1x1: 1k, 1p

Wrap and turn in the short rows:

With yarn in front sl 1 stitch to the right needle
Move yarn between the needles to the back
Slip the stitch back to the left needle
Turn the work and bring yarn back to the wrong side between the needles

Directions:

Jacket is worked sideways with short rows as one piece. Start from the center of the front, then left sleeve, back, right sleeve, right half of the front. The jacket on the picture was made from the self-striping yarn. It is possible to make it from two contrasting color yarns: one - garter stitch, another - stocking stitch, which will create stripes as it is done in the Striped One-Piece Noro (affiliate link) Yarn Sweater.
Short rows are counted as full rows.

Finishing:

Join side seams and sleeve seams.

Border edging and button bands:

Remove the waste yarn from the center of the left front and transfer stitches to the circular needle. Pick up stitches along the bottom of the jacket, then transfer the stitches of the right front to the circular needle. Work garter stitch for 16 rows. Work *M1, k1, M1* in the corners in every odd row. In row 9 make six buttonholes knitting *yo, k2tog*. Bind off.

Sleeve border cuffs:

Pick up sts along the bottom of the sleeves and work garter stitch for 14 rounds. In round 9 work *k4, M1* to the end of the round. Bind off.

Collar

Pick up 78 sts along the neck line and short ends of the button bands. Work rib 1 x 1 for 26 rows.
Row 27: *k1, p1, k1, M1, p1*, repeat to the end of the row.
Rows: 28, 30, 32: *k2, p1, k1, p1*, repeat to the end of the row.
Rows 29, 31: *k1, p1, k1, p2*, repeat to the end of the row.
Row 33: *k1, M1, p1, k1, p2*, repeat to the end of the row.
Row 34, 36: *k2, p1*, repeat to the end of the row.
Row 35: k1, p2
Bind off.
Sew on 6 buttons.

I being like this a lot being a large lady stripes going down is the way to go so that you don't look so wide. Thanks for the pattern.
