HEAD (it’s just a ball)
Make a magic ring and 6 sc in it.
INCREASING
Row 1: 2 sc in each sc from previous row (total 12 stitches)
Row 2: *1 sc in first stitch from prev. row, 2 sc in second stitch from prev. row* (repeat sequence until you get 18 stitches)
Row 3: *1 sc in first stitch from prev. row, 1sc in second stitch from prev. row, 2 sc in third stitch from previous row* (repeat sequence until you get 24 stitches)
Row 4: *1 sc in first stitch from prev. row, 1sc in second stitch from prev. row, 1 sc in third stitch from previous row, 2 sc in fourth stitch from previous row* (repeat sequence until you get 30 stitches)
Rows 5 to 12: sc all around.
DECREASING (same as increasing but the other way round)
Row 13: *1 sc in first stitch from prev. row, 1sc in second stitch from prev. row, 1 sc in third stitch from previous row, 2 sc together in fourth stitch from previous row* (repeat sequence until you get 24 stitches)
Row 14: *1 sc in first stitch from prev. row, 1sc in second stitch from prev. row, 2 sc together in third stitch from previous row* (repeat sequence until you get 24 stitches)
Row 15: *1 sc in first stitch from prev. row, 2 sc together in second stitch from previous row* (repeat sequence until you get 18 stitches)
Row 16: 2 sc together in each (12 stitches)
Stuff it and fasten off leaving a long tail to close your ball.
The original pattern increases one more row, so you get 36 stitches and, consequentially, it later decreases one more row too.
Also, the original, makes the pieces separately (body, eye, google) and glues them together. I chose to sew them instead. I didn’t want to use glue and also I needed it to be quite resistant and child proof
So, if you want to sew the eye and add safety eyes, make sure you do it before you stuff and close your ball. Around row 14 or 15 tops.
I also used this moment to make a few chains with the tail form the starting magic ring on top to create an eyelet to fix the metallic keychain ring.
And to stitch a little mouth:
EYE
Make a magic ring with 6 sc in it.
Row 1: 2 sc in each sc from previous row (total 12 stitches)
Change to grey color:
Row 2: 1 slip stitch in each stitch from previous row.
Fasten off, sew in place and add the safety eye.
BAND
The band around the head is made with single crochet. Final number of stitches will depend on the diameter of your head. I made 30
If you’ve made it this far, I’m sure you’ll be able to figure out how many stitches you need for your head
I sewed it around the head and to the google and that’s all.
It’s really not so difficult but it looks so cute.
