Crochet Turtle Potholder

Materials:

Main color and Contrasting color worsted weight yarn
J crochet hook

NOTE: The shell or center of the potholder is worked with double strands,
one of main color and one of contrasting color, together. The outside, legs,
and head are worked with double strands of contrasting color.

Ch 5. Sl st in 1st ch to form ring.

R1: Ch 3, 11 dc in ring, sl st in top of ch 3.

R2: Ch 3, 1 dc in 1st dc, 2 dc in each dc around. Sl st in top of ch 3.

R3: Ch 3, dc in same st as joining, 1 dc in next dc, *2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in next dc,* repeat from * to * ending with 2 dc in last dc. Sl st in top of ch 3 and fasten off.

Edge, Legs and Tail: Attach CC by sc in any dc of previous round. Sc in next 4 dc, (sc, ch 2, dc, ch2, sc)leg made in next dc. Sc in next 7 dc, make leg in next dc, sc in next 4 dc, (sc, ch 7, sc)tail made in next dc. Sc in next 4 dc, make a leg in next dc, sc in next 7 dc, make a leg in next dc, sc in next 3 dc. Sl st in top of 1st sc. Sl st in top of next 2 sc.

Head (working in rounds):

R1: Ch 1, turn, sc in back of next 4 sc, turn, sc in front half of same 4 sc. Sl st in ch 1.

R2: Ch 1, sc in each sc around. Sl st in ch 1.

R3 - 5: Repeat R2.

R6: Draw up a loop in each of the next 4 sc(5 loops on hook). Yo and draw loop through the 5 loops on hook. Repeat for next 4 sc. Fasten off and weave in ends.
