Small Crochet Turtle
You'll need:
Yarn of two colors;
Crochet hook 4 mm.
Instructions
Shell top: start with magic ring
sc6 (c1) into magic ring, pull magic ring tight, sl1 (attach c2) to join (6)
sc2 (c2) into each sc around, sl1 to join (12)
ch2 (c2), dc1 (c2) Into first sc, *dc2 (c1) Into next sc, dc2 (c2) Into next sc*, repeat from * to* 5 times, dc2 (c1) Into last sc, sl1 (c2) to join (24)
sc1 (c2) into the front loop only of each dc around, sl1 (c2) to join and tie off c2 (24)
Body: with the right side of the work facing you, work c1 into the back loops of the dc shell row around:
sl1 into the 1st back loop stitch
Tail: ch4, sc1 into the 2nd ch from the hook, sc1 into the next 2 ch stitches
sl1 Into next 3 back loop stitches
Back fin: ch2, sc1 Into the 2nd ch from the hook, sc1 Into the next ch stitch, dc1 Into next 2 ch stitches
skip one back loop stitch, sl1 into next 5 back loop stitches
Front fin: ch7, sc1 into the 2nd ch from the hook, dc1 into next 3 ch stitches, sc1 into next 2 ch stitches
sl1 Into next 2 back loop stitches
Head: work 1dc, 3tc, and 1dc all Into the next back loop stitch, drop working loop from hook, insert hook from front to back into the first dc of the group, pick up the dropped loop and pull in through (slightly altered popcorn stitch)
sl1 into next 2 back loop stitches
Repeat front fin
sl1 Into next 5 back loop stitches
Repeat back fin
skip one back loop stitch, sl1 Into next 3 back loop stitches, sl1 to join and tie off c1
Shell bottom: Bottom of shell will be worked In c2. Start with magic ring.
sc6 Into magic ring, pull magic ring tight, sl1 to join (6)
sc2 Into each sc around, sl1 to join (12) sc2 into each sc around, sl1 to join (24)
Attach bottom of shell to turtle body:
sl1 through each sc and through the outer loop of the turtle body to attach the bottom of the shell to the rest of the work
When you encounter an appendage sl1 Into only the shell bottom and skip the next stitch to the body (except on the back legs where you already skipped a stitch when working the turtle body).
Before you make it all the way around and close up the shell, stuff some fiberfill (or other stuffing) into the body cavity
Finish by closing up the hole with slip stitches and knotting off. Pull yarn tail Into body with hook.
