What You’ll Need:

  • 1 170g ball of Lion Brand Homespun Yarn in Forest (size 5)
  • 1 50g ball of Patons Astra in Hot Green (size 3)
  • 7.00mm crochet hook
  • 3.25mm crochet hook
  • Polyfill (stuffing)
  • 6mm Safety eyes
  • Scissors
  • Stitch marker
  • Sewing Pins
  • Darning needle
  • Row Counter

ss=slip stitch

F/O=fasten off

BLO=yarn over

Gauge:

24 sts x 24 rows = 4” in single crochet for size 3 yarn

16 sts x 16 rows = 4” in single crochet for size 5 yarn

Turtle Pattern:

Shell:
Use chunky green yarn & 7.00mm crochet hook. Starts at the top of the shell.
1. Ch 2. 6 sc in the first ch. (6 sts)
2. 2 sc in each st around. (12 sts)
3. 1 sc, inc. Repeat around. (18 sts)
4. 2 sc, inc. Repeat around. (24 sts)
5. 3 sc, inc. Repeat around. (30 sts)
6. 4 sc, inc. Repeat around. (36 sts)
7. 5 sc, inc. Repeat around. (42 sts)
8 - 12. Sc around. (42 sts)
13. Sc around in the BLO. (42 sts)
14. 5 sc, dec. Repeat around. (36 sts)
15. 4 sc, dec. Repeat around. (30 sts)
16. 3 sc, dec. Repeat around. (24 sts)
17. 2 sc, dec. Repeat around. (18 sts)
18. 1 sc, dec. Repeat around. (12 sts)
Stuff.
19. Dec around. (6 sts)
Ss and F/O. Use the remaining tail to sew up the hole.

Head: Use light green worsted yarn & 3.25mm crochet hook.
1. Ch 2. 6 sc in the first ch. Do not join. (6 sts)
2. 2 sc in each st around. (12 sts)
3. *1 sc, inc. Repeat from * around. (18 sts)
4 – 8. Sc in each st around. (18 sts)
9. *1 sc, dec. Repeat from * around. (12 sts)
10 - 13, Sc around. (12 sts)
Ss and F/O. Attach 6mm safety eyes to round 4 approximately 5 sts apart. Stuff head. Leave a long enough tail to attach to the shell where the bottom is attached to the top.

Fins:
Use light green worsted yarn & 3.25mm crochet hook. Make four. Starts at the wide end of the fin that attaches to the shell.
1. Ch 2. 6 sc in the first ch. Do not join. (6 sts)
2. 2 Sc in each st around. (12 sts)
3. 1 sc, inc. Repeat around. (18 sts)
4 – 7. Sc in each st around. (18 sts)
8. 3 sc, dec. Repeat around. (15 sts)
9. Sc in each st around. (15 sts)
Stuff.
10. 2 sc, dec. Repeat around. (12 sts)
11. 1 sc, dec. Repeat around. (8 sts)
12. Dec around.
