Classic White Knit Sweater

You’ll need:

18-20-22-24-27-29 skeins of thick 100% wool yarn (50m/50g);

Circle knitting needles 8 (80 cm long);

Double-pointed knitting needles 8;

Circle knitting needles 7 (60 cm long).

Size: S-M-L-XL-XXL-XXXL.

Stitches control: 11 sts х 15 rows = 10 х 10 cm.

Used Patterns

Main Pattern (see the scheme M.1).

Garter stitch: add 1 st by means of yarn over. In the next row knit the yarn over through back loop not to make hole.

Instructions

Front and Back

Work with circle rows.

Cast on 97 (106, 117, 128, 143, 152) sts with circle knitting needles 8 and make 6 rows of garter stitch, increase 17 (20, 21, 22, 25, 28) sts in the last row = 114 (126, 138, 150, 168, 180) sts.

Place markers on the 1st and 57th (63rd, 69th, 75th, 84th, 90th) sts – side. Work with pattern due to the scheme M.1 with circle rows. At 62 cm height, bind off 5 sts from both sides. Continue knitting back and front parts separately.

Back

You should have 52 (58, 64, 70, 79, 85) sts for back. Continue work with the pattern due to the scheme M.1, bind off the sts in the beginning of each row for arm-holes: 2 sts x 1 (2, 2, 4, 5, 7) and 1 st x 1 (2, 2, 2, 1, 2, 1) = = 46 (46, 52, 52, 55, 55) sts.

At 79 (80, 81, 82, 83, 84) cm height, bind off the central 20 (20, 22, 22, 23, 23) sts for the neck-hole.

In the new row, bind off 2 sts from the neck-hole side = 12 (12, 14, 14, 15, 15) sts for each shoulder. Finish shoulders to 82 (83, 84, 85, 86, 87) cm long and bind off the sts.

Front

You should have 52 (58, 64, 70, 79, 85) sts. Continue work with the pattern due to the scheme M.1, bind off the sts for arm-holes, as in back = 46 (46, 52, 52, 55, 55) sts.

At 79 cm height, transfer the central 18 (18, 18, 18, 19, 19) sts to the pin (this is neck-hole) and finish both parts separately.

Bind off the sts from neck-hole side in every row in the following way: 2 sts x 1 and 1 st x 0 (0, 1, 1, 1, 1) = 12 (12, 14, 14, 15, 15) sts for shoulders. Finish them to 82 (83, 84, 85, 86, 87) cm and bind off all the sts.

Sleeves

Knit straight.

Cast on 27 (28, 29, 30, 31, 32) sts, including selvedge sts on the knitting needles 8 and make 6 rows with garter stitch, increase 2 (4, 6, 8, 7, 9) sts in the last row = 29 (32, 35, 38, 38, 41).

After that, continue work due to the pattern of the scheme M.1 (selvedge st as garter stitch). At 7 cm height, increase 1 st from both sides. Repeat the increases in every 4,5 (4,5; 4; 4; 3; 3) cm x 8 (8, 8, 8, 11, 11) times = 47 (50, 53, 56, 62, 65) sts.

At 48 (47, 45, 45, 43, 43) cm height, bind off 3 sts from both sides. After that, bind off the sts in the beginning of each row in the following way: 2 sts x 2 (2, 3, 3, 4, 4) and 1 st х 0 (0, 0, 1, 1, 0). Then, bind off 2 sts in the beginning of each row until you have 55 (56, 54, 55, 55, 56) cm long. Now, bind off 3 sts from both sides, after that, bind off all the sts. The length of sleeve should be 57 (58, 56, 57, 57, 58) cm.

Assembly

Make shoulder and sleeve seams.

Neck-Hole

Work with knitting needles 7 in circle rows.

Cast on 40-60 sts (including the sts from the pin) along the neck-hole line. Make 1 row of purls and 1 row of knit sts, then, 1 row of purls again. In the last row, increase or decrease sts in such a way, that you should get 50 (56, 62, 68, 74, 76) sts.

After that, make 1 row of knit sts and start making 1 x 1 rib for 4 cm height, after that, increase 1 st after every st by means of yarn over. Knit the yarn over through back loop in the new row = 75 (84, 93, 102, 111, 114) sts.

Continue work due to the scheme M.1 on all the sts. Knit neck-hole to 24-26 cm height and bind off all the sts.
