Materials Needed:

  • Yarn: White and pink 100% cotton yarn suitable for a 3mm crochet hook
  • Crochet hook: 3mm size or as suitable for your yarn
  • Scissors: To cut the yarn
  • Yarn needle: For weaving in loose ends
  • Markers or clips: For holding the folded edges in place

Pattern Instructions

Foundation Chain:

Begin by making a slip knot and placing it on your hook.

Chain multiples of three until you reach the desired length.

Add an extra 6 cm to wrap around the edges.

First Row (Double Crochets):

Make five more chains.

Skip the first five chains and work your first double crochet in the sixth chain.

To make a double crochet: Yarn over, insert the hook into the chain, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through the first two loops, yarn over, and pull through the last two loops.

Continue working groups of three double crochets, skipping two chains between each group.

End the row with one double crochet in the last chain space.

Second Row:

Turn your work and chain three (counts as the first double crochet).

Work two double crochets in the gap between clusters from the first row.

Continue working groups of three double crochets in each gap across the row.


Color Change and Row Three:

Begin by chaining four to turn (counts as the first double crochet).

Work three double crochets in the first gap.

Switch to pink yarn in the last double crochet of the white yarn. To switch colors, stop before completing the last double crochet (with two loops on the hook), pick up the new color, and pull through the two loops.

Continue with the pink yarn, working groups of three double crochets in each gap.

Switch colors as needed by following the same method described above.


Subsequent Rows:

Continue alternating colors and working groups of three double crochets in each gap to the desired length. Ensure one row entirely in pink for a contrasting stripe look.
Customize the number of pink heart rows and spacing between them based on your preference.


Final Edge Row:

Add a finishing row by working three double crochets in each gap along the foundation chain.
Cut the yarn, pull through, and secure.

Creating Holders:

Fold each end of the cover around the book edges to create holders.

Use clips or markers to hold the folds in place.

Secure the bottom edge of each holder with single crochet stitches, working through both layers.

Repeat for the top edge.

Create a magic ring.

Chain three (counts as the first triple crochet).

Work three triple crochets, four double crochets, chain two, four double crochets, and three triple crochets.

Chain three and slip stitch to close the ring. Cut yarn and pull through.


Border and Square Shape:

Attach yarn at the bottom of the heart.

Single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet, chain two, and another half double crochet in the same stitch.

Work evenly around the heart’s edge.

Form the square by working three double crochets in each gap and following the corner pattern.

Complete four rows, cutting yarn and securing at the end.


Attaching Pocket:

Position the heart pocket on the front cover.

Secure it using stitch markers.

Sew the heart pocket onto the cover with matching yarn, using a yarn needle.

Weave in any loose ends securely.
