Crochet Simple Butterfly

Materials:

Whatever yarn you like

4 mm (G) hook

Sewing needle

Abbreviations Used:

ch=chain, sl st=slip stitch, dc=double crochet, MC=main color, CC=contrasting color, sk=skip, rep=repeat

Notes:

On main part of butterfly, do not join rounds. Use a stitch marker to mark 1st stitch. Special Stitch: Ch 3 picot (ch 3, sl st in first ch to form picot)

Butterfly:

Rnd 1: With MC, use a magic circle or ch 8, sl st to form ring, 24 dc in ring (24)

Rnd 2: 2 dc in next st, dc in next st around (36)

Rnd 3: 2 dc in next st, dc in next 2 sts around (48)

Rnd 4: 2 dc in next st, dc in next 3 sts around (60)

Rnd 5: 2 dc in next st, dc in next 4 sts around (72)

Rnd 6: 2 dc in next st, dc in next 5 sts around (84) Sl st in first st. Fasten off. Fold circle in half.

This is where you will start next part of wings

Working through both thicknesses, join CC as shown in picture(this will be through the 1st and last st of row 6.

Row 1: Ch 3, (dc in next 9 sts, sl st in next st, ch3) 3 times, dc in last 10 sts, turn

Row 2: Ch 3, *sk next st, (dc, ch1, dc) next st, Rep from * 4 times, ch 2, sl st in the sl st, ch 2, (dc, ch1, dc) in next st, *sk next st, (dc, ch1, dc) next st, Rep from * 4 times, ch 2, sl st in sl st, ch 2, (dc, ch1, dc) next st, *sk next st, (dc, ch1, dc) next st, Rep from * 4 times, ch 2, sl st in sl st, ch 2, (dc, ch1, dc) next st, *sk next st, (dc, ch1, dc) next st, Rep from * 4 times, sl st in top of ch 3. Fasten off.

Fold in half. Tack a couple stitches through both thicknesses on round 1. (See picture 3)

Body:

Using brown or black, Ch 14, 2 sc in 3rd ch from hook, sc in next 10 chs, sc in last ch, Ch 3 picot(see special stitch in notes), sc in same st. Now working on opposite side of chain, sc in next 10 ch, 2 sc in last ch. Now working on antennae, Ch 13, sl st in 4th ch from hook and in next 9 chs, sl st in next dc on head, Ch 13, sl st in 4th ch from hook and in next 9 chs, sl st in same st.

Fasten off. Leave a long tail for sewing. Sew body on underside fold of body with head on round 1 of butterfly.

Sew body to underside of butterfly with antennae sticking past.

All ready to decorate. Place on a table. Hang from a string in the window. Put wherever you need a little extra brightness.
