The finished size of this scarf is 5 inches wide by 6 feet long. I did a total of 20 rows. I would have crocheted a larger scarf but I only had a half a skein of each color of vintage sparkle yarn. One skein was a solid blue and the other was a variegated white to blue skein. The 6 foot length is a youth sized scarf and 7 feet is a more suitable length for an adult scarf.
Chain Stitch Scarf Pattern
H (5 mm) crochet hook
2.5-3 ozs Medium weight yarn in 2 colors (total yarn needed is nearly 6 ozs for youth size or 7 ozs for adult)
Chain a length of 6 feet long or more for the scarf. 6 feet works well for a youth scarf. For an adult scarf, chain 7 feet.
Don’t worry about the stitch count. Whatever extra stitches you have at the end can easily be unravel. Below you will see I had a couple of spare stitches left at the end of my base row. I simply unraveled the extra stitches back to the scarf edge and wove the end under when the scarf was completed.
SC (USA single crochet) in 2nd chain from hook and SC in the next stitch also. *Chain 4 and skip 3 chain stitches, then SC in next stitch.* Repeat between * across row and SC in each of the last 2 stitches of chain. Remember if you can’t do another repetition of the pattern, just work a SC in the last two stitches and come back later and unravel any unused stitches of the chain.
Next row:
Ch 1 and turn. Sc in the next 2 stitches, then chain 4 and SC into the next SC stitch. Now just repeat across working *chain 4, SC in next SC of row.* SC in the last two 2 stitches of the row.
Tip: You want to skip over the chain-4 of each prior row and SC into the center of the SC of the prior row to create the pattern look.
I changed yarn colors every two rows. I just dropped the one color at the end of the 2nd row by pulling up the new color in the last stitch of the row. Just leave the yarn you dropped at the end of that row and when you return back after the 2nd row with the new color, pull up the old color and drop the yarn color you just worked the last two rows in.
Just repeat rows, changing colors every two rows by picking back up the yarn color you dropped. Once you have the width you desire, finish scarf off.
