Classic Knit Beret
You’ll need:
100g of 100% wool yarn of lilac color (100m/50g);
Circle knitting needles 5 with 60 cm fishing line;
Double-pointed knitting needles 5.
Head circumference: 54-58 cm.
Used Patterns
2 x 2 rib;
Stockinette stitch: in RS row – knit sts, in WS – purls;
Cables: the quantity of sts is multipled 12, work due to the scheme around. One pattern repeat is shown on the scheme with all circle rows. Make the pattern repeat x 4 times, one on each knitting needle. After 28 circle rows, the pattern repeat is 36 sts wide. After 40 circle rows – 28 sts wide.
Start working due to the instructions, then, make 5th-40th circle rows once.
Stitches control: 18 sts x 24 rows = 10 x 10 cm.
Instructions
Start from the center of crown from up to down.
Cast on 12 sts with double pointed knitting needles and divide them on 4 needles, circle the row.
Then:
1st row: 12 knit sts;
2nd row: double the quantity of sts by means of making 2 sts out of 1 – 1 knit st and 1 cross knit st (= 24 sts);
3rd row: 24 knit sts;
4th row: double the quantity of sts by means of making 2 sts out of 1 – 1 knit st and 1 cross knit st (= 48 sts);
5th row: make cable pattern, increase the sts due to the scheme, turn to circle knitting needles.
After making 28 circle rows (= 11,5 cm from the 1st row), you’ll get the half height of the ready-made hat. Total quantity of sts at this stage = 144 sts.
At 31st row (= 13 cm) beret circumference = 80 cm.
Make decreases in every pattern repeat due to the scheme, starting from the 34th row.
At 40th row (= 16,5 cm) the quantity of sts = 112 sts.
Make placket with rib pattern for 5 cm, bind off the sts due to the ornament.
