Crochet Santa Ornament

Crochet Santa ornaments are delightful additions to any holiday decor! Materials:

Small amounts of worsted weight yarn in red, white, green and pink

One canning jar lid or heavy cardboard cut in a 2" circle

Purchased pom-poms, red for nose and white for hat (or make your own)

2 tiny black pom-poms for eyes

White Tacky Glue

3 red beads for berries

Size "H" Hook

Face

Rnd 1: With Pink, ch 2, 6 sc in 1st chain. Join to first sc. (6 sc)

Rnd 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in same place, 2 sc in each sc around. Join. (12 sc)

Rnd 3: Ch 1, 1 sc in same place, 2 sc in next sc, (1 sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) around. Join (18 sc)

Rnd 4: Ch 1, 1 sc in same place and in next sc, 2 sc in next sc, (1 sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around. Join. (24 sc)

Rnd 5: Working in back loop (this round only), ch 1, sc in same place and in each sc around. Join (24 sc)

Rnd 6: Ch 1, 1 sc in same place and each sc around. Join (24 sc)

Rnd 7: Repeat Rnd 6.

Rnd 8: Ch 1, sc in same place, dec over next 2 sc, (sc in next 2 sc, dec over next 2 sc) around. Join. (18 sc)

Rnd 9: Ch 1, sc in same place, dec over next 2 sc, (sc in next sc, dec over next 2 sc) around. Join. (12 sc)

Finish off leaving a length of yarn to gather opening close. Slip piece over jar lid or cardboard and pull tightly to close.

Beard

Attach white yarn in any free loop of rnd 5. (Ch 4, sc in same sc) 2 times. *In next two sc also ch 4, sc in same sc 2 times.) repeat from * one more time. In next 2 sc, ( ch 5, 1 sc) twice. In next 2 sc, (ch 6, 1 sc) twice. In next 2 sc, (ch 7, 1 sc) twice. In next 2 sc, (ch 6, 1 sc) twice; in next 2 sc,( ch 5, 1 sc) twice; in next 3 sc, (ch 4, 1 sc) twice. Finish off. (32 loops)

Hat

With white, ch 22, join.

Rnd 1: 1 hdc in each ch. Join and finish off. (22 hdc)

Rnd 2: Attach red in any back loop of Rnd 1 and 1 sc in each hdc. Join. (22 sc)

Rnd 3: Decrease 3 sc evenly spaced around. Join (19 sc)

Rnd 4. Sc in each sc around. Join

Remaining rnds: Repeat rnds 3 and 4 until 3 sc remain. Finish off. Gather opening closed.

Glue hat to top of head. Glue pom-pom to hat, glue 2 little black pom-poms for eyes, glue pom-pom for nose. Cut short pieces for eyebrows and glue over eyes. Cut 8 2-1/2" lengths of white and tie in center for beard. Glue under nose. Make a little "O" with red yarn for mouth and glue in place.

Holly

With green, ch 4 and join to form a ring.

*(Ch 5, sl st in second ch, sc in next ch, hdc in next 2 ch, sl st in ring.) Repeat from * 2 more times. Finish off

Glue to hat and add 3 tiny red beads.

Hint: If you have polymer clay around, make your beads with that.
