Crochet Santa Claus Ornament

Crocheting your own Santa Claus ornament is a delightful way to add a touch of handmade charm to your holiday decor. The intricate details you can create with just a bit of yarn and a crochet hook are truly magical. From his jolly red suit to his fluffy white beard, every stitch brings him to life. This little Santa is sure to bring a smile to your face every time you see him hanging on your Christmas tree. So grab your yarn and get ready to create a cozy, festive addition to your holiday collection!

The Details

As usual, the body of this pattern is made in the same style as my Ragdoll patterns; separate pieces worked in flat rows and then joined together to give them that unique 2-D look.

The finished measurements are approximately 13cm/5″ from top to bottom.

Notes:

  1. The panels are worked from the bottom up in flat rows. As you are working the panels, you will notice that it will start to curve downward at the ends because of the increases; this is normal! Keep going and the rows will even out around row 8.
  2. The beard is worked in the round from the bottom up until you reach the sideburns; the sideburns are worked in flat rows.
  3. The moustache is worked in two separate pieces in the round.
  4. The brim of the hat is worked sideways in flat rows and then joined to create a tube. The brim is then folded upwards and the hat body is worked into the edge of the brim in the round. The pompom is worked in the round.
  5. The eyes are inserted into the front panel before assembly.
  6. The body panels and the beard are stacked on top of each other and single crocheted together to join them and then stuffed. The beard is attached at the sideburns only.
  7. The moustache, nose, eyebrows, and hat are attached at the end, after assembly.

Assembly:

  1. Insert 10mm safety eyes into the front panel between rows 13-14. The eyes should be approximately 6 sts in from each side, with approximately 5 sts between them.
  2. Stack the panels as follows: back panel on bottom, front panel in the middle, beard on top. Make sure all the yarn ends of the panels are facing inward so that they are hidden. Match up all rows with the front/right side facing you. The bottom of the side burns/row 16 of the beard should line up with the stitch markers at row 8 (see photos below). Starting near the top of the head on the left side, begin attaching the panels together by inserting your hook through the two panels and single crocheting around the outside edge of the panels starting in MC. Once you’ve crocheted down to the top edge of the sideburn, switch to white yarn. Now you will be crocheting through all three panels (the sideburn, the front, and the back). Continue crocheting down the sideburn. Once you reach the main part of the beard, you will switch to MC and resume crocheting in the two panels only. Crochet down around the bottom and part way up the other side, switching back to white when you reach the sideburn on the other side; you will now be crocheting through three panels again! Crochet up the sideburn. Switch back to MC after the sideburn. Now you are back to crocheting in two panels only. Stop here and stuff. Continue crocheting up and around the head, stuffing as you go. Slst to beginning stitch to close and weave ends.
  3. Stitch the moustache pieces onto the front at rows 8-11 (they will overlap onto the top of the beard slightly).
  4. In pink yarn, stitch a nose around two stitches at row 11. The nose will be between the eyes and immediately above where the moustache pieces touch. Stitch several times to create a small bump.
  5. In white yarn, stitch eyebrows diagonally over the eyes at rows 17-18 spanning about 2 stitches.
  6. Place the hat jauntily on the head and stitch in place.
  7. Add blush to cheeks if desired.
