Materials Needed


  • 2 skeins Lily Sugar n Cream super size; 400 yards total (I used Grape)
  • I/5.5mm crochet hook
  • yarn needle

    ch = chain
    sl st = slip stitch
    hdc = half double crochet ch sp = chain space

    The finished basket is approximately 8.5" x 6" wide and 7" tall.


    NOTE: Try to keep the row joins in the middle of the work. You can do this by shifting your stitches if your work starts to drift to the side. This will help keep the handles centered on the basket.

    With yarn held double, ch 11.

    Row 1: 2 hdc in 3rd ch from hook, 7 hdc, 4 hdc in last stitch. Working on the other side of the starting ch: 7 hdc, 2 hdc in last st. Sl st to first hdc. (22 hdc)

    Row 2: Ch 2, 2 hdc in next 2 sts, 7 hdc, 2 hdc in next 4 sts, 7hdc, 2 hdc in next 2 sts. Sl st to first hdc. (30 hdc)

    Row 3: Ch 2, (1 hdc, 2hdc in next st) twice, 7 hdc, (1 hdc, 2hdc in next) 4 times, 7 hdc, (1 hdc, 2 hdc in next) twice. Sl st to first hdc. (38 hdc)

    Row 4: Ch 2, (1 hdc in next 2 sts, 2 hdc in next st) twice, 7 hdc, (1 hdc in next 2 sts, 2 hdc in next st) 4 times, 7 hdc, (1 hdc in next 2 sts, 2 hdc in next st) twice. Sl st to first hdc. (46 hdc)

    Row 5: Ch 2, (1 hdc in next 3 sts, 2 hdc in next st) twice, 7 hdc, (1 hdc in next 3 sts, 2 hdc in next st) 4 times, 7 hdc, (1 hdc in next 3 sts, 2 hdc in next st) twice. Sl st to first hdc. (54 hdc)

    Row 6: Ch 2, (1 hdc in next 4 sts, 2 hdc in next st) twice, 7 hdc, (1 hdc in next 4 sts, 2 hdc in next st) 4 times, 7 hdc, (1 hdc in next 4 sts, 2 hdc in next st) twice. Sl st to first hdc. (62 hdc)

    Row 7: Ch 2, (1 hdc in next 5 sts, 2 hdc in next st) twice, 7 hdc, (1 hdc in next 5 sts, 2 hdc in next st) 4 times, 7 hdc, (1 hdc in next 5 sts, 2 hdc in next st) twice. Sl st to first hdc. (70 hdc)

    Row 8: Sl st all the way around. Sl st to first sl st. (70 sl st)

  • Row 9: Ch 2, hdc into the middle of st st row and hdc in row 7 around. Sl st to first hdc. (70 hdc)

    Row 10- 19: Ch 2, hdc around. Sl st to first hdc. (70 hdc)

    Row 20: Ch 2, 13 hdc, ch 10, skip 9 sts, 26 hdc, ch 10, skip 9, 13 hdc. Sl st to first hdc. (72 sts)

    Row 21: Ch 2, 13 hdc, 12 hdc in ch sp, 26 hdc, 12 hdc in ch sp, 13 hdc. Sl st to first hdc. (76 hdc)

    Row 22-23: Ch 2, hdc around. Sl st to first hdc. (76 hdc)

    Bind off. Weave in ends.
