​Trendy Knit Ponytail Hat

Knitting Needle Size9 or 5.5 mm, Circular Knitting Needles

Yarn Weight(4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)
Gauge: 18 sts = 4" [10 cm]; 24 rows = 4" [10 cm] in Stockinette stitch. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size needles to obtain the gauge.
Finished Size: Hat circumference at bottom edge: 18 (20, 22)" [46 (51, 56) cm]

RED HEART® With Love®: 1 skein 1562 Jadeite
Susan Bates® Circular Knitting Needle: 5.5mm [US 9], 16" [40cm] long
Stitch marker
Yarn needle

Instructions

Directions are for size Small; changes for sizes Medium and Large are in parentheses.

Hat

Cast on 80 (90, 100) sts. Join to work in rounds, taking care not to twist sts. Place marker for beginning of round.
Round 1 (Right Side): [K2, p2] around. Repeat Round 1 until piece measures 1½ (2, 2)" [4 (5, 5) cm] from beginning.
Next Round: Knit.
Repeat last round until piece measures 5½ (6, 6)" [14 (15, 15) cm] from beginning.

Shape Crown

Round 1: [K3, k2tog] around – 64 (72, 80) sts.
Round 2: Knit.
Round 3: [K2, k2tog] around – 48 (54, 60) sts.
Round 4: Knit.
Round 5: [K1, k2tog] around – 32 (36, 40) sts.
Round 6: Knit.
Bind off.

Finishing

Weave in ends.
