Crochet Bag with Rope Handles
You’ll need:
250g of T-shirt yarn in cream color (72% cotton, 28% elastan; 250m/290g);
250g of the same yarn, but in grey color;
Crochet hook 8 mm;
Stitch markers;
2,5 m of cotton rope;
Adhesive tape;
Scissors;
Measuring tape;
4 metal washers 1,5 mm diameter;
Glue Fray Check.
Stitches control: 7 sts x 12 rows = 10 x 10 cm
Instructions
Start your work with grey yarn.
1st row: (1 single crochet, 1 double crochet) in the 2nd st from the crochet hook, * skip the next st, (1 single crochet, 1 double crochet) in the next single crochet*; repeat from * to *, 1 single crochet in the last st, turn;
2nd row: 1 chain st, (1 single crochet, 1 double crochet) in the 1st single crochet, skip the next double crochet, * (1 single crochet, 1 double crochet) in the next single crochet, skip the next double crochet*; repeat from * to *, 1 single crochet in the last chain st, turn.
Repeat 1st-2nd rows until 30 cm long = about 29 rows. Don’t cut the yarn. Turn to cream yarn and make 7 rows more.
Now, you need to leave holes for handles. Place markers in the 8th cream row in the 6th, 32nd, 48th and 72nd crochets. Work due to the scheme described above until you reach the marker, skip the marked single crochet and the one after it. Make 2 chain sts instead of them and after that continue work due to the pattern (single crochet, double crochet) on the 3rd crochet from the marked crochet. Make 4 rows more due to the pattern. Fasten off, leave loose end 30-40 cm long.
Assembly
Fold your rectangular shape work in half. Sew cream part of bag with tapestry needle. When you reach the grey part, insert cream yarn in the pattern and cut it. Sew the rest part from one side and bottom with grey yarn. Weave in ends and cut the yarn. Turn your bag to right side.
Handles
Measure 1 m of the rope. Twist it with adhesive tape tightly around the place where you’re planning to cut it. Then, cut the center of tape and leave both ends twisted with tape. Don’t take off the adhesive tape.
Skip the rope from wrong side to right side through the holes of handle and place washer on every end of rope. Make tight knots on the ends of rope. Put Fray Check glue to the end of rope, before you take off the tape. That’s it.
