​Crochet Tote Bag with Rope Handles

You’ll need:

200 yards of Red Heart Scrubby Smoothie in Cherry color;

83 yards of the same yarn, but in Loofah color;

Crochet hook 4 mm;

Scissors;

Yarn needle;

66 inches of 1/2” cotton rope;

Stitch marker.

Size: 16 inches wide x 11 inches tall.

Stitches control: 4 sts x 2 rows = 1” x 1”.

Special Stitches

Quadruple Treble – This is similar to a double crochet just more loops. – Wrap the yarn around the hook until you have 6 loops on the hook. Insert your hook into the next stitch, yarn over and pull the loop through the stitch. You will now have 7 loops on the hook. *Yarn over and pull the first loop through the next 2 loops* repeat from *to* until you only have one loop on your hook. Your Quadruple treble is complete.


Note: Do not turn at the end of the rows.


Instructions

Make 67 chain sts.

1st row: Dc in the third Ch from the hook, Work a Dc into every Ch across. Working down the other side of the Ch, Work a Dc into every Ch on the opposite side of the work. Slst to the first Dc. (130sts);

2nd-22nd rows: Ch2, Work a Dc into every St around. Slst to the first Dc. (130sts);

23rd row: Ch2, Work a Dc into the next 20 Sts, Ch1, Sk St, Work a Dc into the next 24 Sts, Ch1, Sk St, Work a Dc into the next 40 Sts, Ch1, Sk St, Work a Dc into the 24 Sts, Ch1, Sk St, Work a Dc into the last 20 Sts. Slst to the first Dc. (128sts, 2 Ch spaces);

24th row: Ch2, Work a Dc into every St and Ch Space around. Slst to the first Dc. Fasten off and weave in ends. (130sts)


Mesh Top Bag

Make 57 chain sts, Mark the last St with a Stitch Marker.

1st row: Ch19, Slst to the Ch with the Stitch Marker, *Ch 12, Sk 7 Chs, Slst to the next Ch* repeat from *to* a total of 8 times.

Your last Slst should have been to the last on the foundation Ch. Working down the other side of the Ch. *Ch 12, Sk 7 Chs, Slst to the next Ch* repeat from *to* a total of 7 times. Ch 6, work a Quadtr st into the same Ch as the Stitch Marker. (16 Chain Spaces)

Use your stitch marker to mark the top of the Quadtr.

2nd-12th rows: Turn your work, *Ch 12, Slst to the next Ch space* repeat from *to* a total of 15 times. Ch6, work a Quadtr St into the top of the Quadtr of the last Row. (16 Chain Spaces)

Slip your solid bag into the mesh bag and line up the bottom corners. Start row 13 by Single Crocheting into the Sc that lines up with the last St of Row 12.

13th row: Work a Sc a stitch from the solid bag, Work a Sc into the next 6 Sts, Work a Sc into the next Ch space and the next St. *Work a Sc into the next 7 Sts, Work a Sc into the next Ch Space andthe next St.* repeat from *to* a total of 14 times, Work a Sc into the last 8 Sts. Slst to the first Sc. Fasten off and weave in your ends. (130 Sts)

Take some extra yarn and a yarn needle and sew a small stitch in the bottom corners of the bag to secure the two bags together.

Add Your Rope Handle

Cut two 33” pieces of rope. Push each end of the rope through one of the chain spaces created in row 23 and tie a knot. Repeat for the other side of the bag.
