​Chess-Board Knit Dress

You’ll need:

650 (750)g oa grey Corsofino yarn (35% cotton, 35% polyacryl, 30% viscose; 114m/50g);

Straight knitting needles 3,5 and 4;

Circular knitting needles 3,5.

Size: S (M).

Used Patterns

Rib: the quantity of sts is even. Make 1 knit st, 1 purl by turn.

Chess-board pattern: the quantity of sts is multiple 24 + 12 + 2 selvage sts. Work due to the scheme, on which only RS rows are stated. Make WS rows due to the pattern or as stated. Start with 1 selvage st, pattern repeat, finish with sts after pattern repeat and 1 selvage st. Make 1^st-4^th rows x 3 times, 13^th-14^th rows x once, 15^th-18^th rows x 3 times, 27^th-28^th rows x once. Repeat 1^st-28^th rows.

Stockinette stitch: in RS row – knit sts, in WS row – purls.

Stitches control: chess-board pattern: 21 sts x 31 rows = 10 x 10 cm;

Rib: 23 sts x 32 rows = 10 x 10 cm;

Stockinette stitch: 21 sts x 30 rows = 10 x 10 cm.

Instructions

Back

Cast on 110 (122) sts with knitting needles 3,5 and make 2 cm of rib between selvage sts. Then, turn to knitting needles 4 and make 38 cm = 118 rows with chess-board pattern, for M size, start with sts from arrow C, pattern repeat, finish with sts before arrow C and 1 selvage st. Decrease 18 sts in the last WS row of the pattern = 92 (104) sts. Then, make rib for waist placket. At 5 cm height of waist placket = 16 rows, start work with stockinette stitch. In 10,5 cm = 32 rows (8 cm = 24 rows) from the waist placket, bind off 4 sts from both sides for arm-holes and 1 x 3 sts, 1 x 2 sts and 2 x 1 st in every 2^nd row = 70 (82) sts. In 28 cm = 84 rows from waist placket, bind off the central 16 (20) sts and finish both sides separately. For smooth rounding, bind off 1 x 8 sts and 1 x 5 sts from both sides in every 2^nd row. In 30 cm = 90 rows from the waist placket, bind off the rest 14 (18) sts of shoulder from each side.

Front

Make in the same way, as back, but for size S, make pattern, replacing it, start with 1 selvage st and sts from arrow A, pattern repeat, finish with 1 selvage st. For deeper neck-hole, bind off the central 8 (12) sts in 14 cm = 42 rows from waist placket and 1 x 3 sts, 1 x 2 sts, 4 x 1 st in every 2^nd row and 8 x 1 st in every 4^th row.

Sleeves

Cast on 52 (62) sts with knitting needles 3,5 and make 2 cm of rib between selvage sts. Then, turn to knitting needles 4 and work with chess-board pattern, for size M, finish with sts before arrow B and 1 selvage st. In 21 cm = 66 rows from rib, increase 1 st from both sides for sleeve chamfers and 14 x 1 st in every 4^th and 6^th rows = 82 (92) sts, include the increased sts in the pattern. In 46 cm = 142 rows from rib, bind off 5 sts from both sides for sleeve caps and 1 x 3 sts, 4 x 2 sts, 4 x 1 st, 3 x 2 sts, 2 x 3 sts, 1 x 4 sts (1 x 3 sts, 11 x 2 sts, 2 x 3 sts, 1 x 4 sts) in every 2^nd row. In 56 cm = 174 rows from rib, bind off the rest 10 (12) sts.

Assembly

Make shoulder seams. Cast on 132 (140) sts with circular knitting needles and make placket with rib. At 2 cm height, bind off all the sts due to the pattern. Sew up the sleeves, make side and sleeve seams.
