Crochet Jumbo Corn Dog

Materials:

• 2 Premier Parfait Chunky 131yds #6 Super Bulky in color Teddy Bear (brown)
• 1 Premier Parfait Chunky 131yds #6 Super Bulky in color Toffee (light tan)
• 1 Premier Parfait Chunky 131yds #6 Super Bulky in color Yellow
• Black yarn for the mouth
• Pink yarn for the blush (optional)
• 25mm safety eyes (I purchased my eyes from the WildKCrochet Etsy shop in the color “Orange Zest.”)
• US size J 6.0 mm crochet hook
• Poly-fil for stuffing
• Stitch marker
• 3″ x 1.5″ plastic or wooden dowel for corn dog stick (optional)
• Scissors
• Tapestry needle

Size (approximate): 20″ tall

Pattern Notes:

• We’ll be working in continuous rounds. Do not join at the end of your rounds.
• When decreasing, I use the “invisible decrease” method. This method hides the decrease a bit better. You can use whatever method for decreasing you prefer, as it will not change the outcome of your project.
• You can use your choice of super bulky yarn and hook size. Just keep in mind that this will change the final size of your corn dog.

Abbreviations (US):

ch – chain
st(s) – stitch(es)
sl st – slip stitch
sc – single crochet
inc – increase (work 2 stitches in the same stitch)
dec – decrease (single crochet 2 stitches together)

Make the Mustard (using the color yellow)

Ch 45 and sl st into 2nd chain from the hook and in each chain across. Set aside.

Make the Corn Dog (start with the color “teddy bear”)

To begin Ch 2

Round 1: Place 6 sc into the 2nd chain from the hook. (6 sts)

Remember to place your stitch marker in the 1st stitch of each round. This will help you keep track of when you’re starting a new round.

Round 2: Inc in each stitch around. (12 sts)

Round 3: *Sc, inc in next st.* Repeat from * to * around. (18 sts)

Round 4: *Sc in next 2 sts, inc.* Repeat from * to * around. (24 sts)

Round 5: *Sc in next 3 sts, inc.* Repeat from * to * around. (30 sts)

Round 6: *Sc in next 4 sts, inc.* Repeat from * to * around. (36 sts)

Round 7: *Sc in next 5 sts, inc.* Repeat from * to * around. (42 sts)

Round 8: *Sc in next 6 sts, inc.* Repeat from * to * around. (48 sts)

Rounds 9-45: Sc around. (48 sts)

Round 46: *Sc in next 6 sts, dec.* Repeat from * to * around. (42 sts)

Round 47: *Sc in next 5 sts, dec.* Repeat from * to * around. (36 sts)

– Place your eyes between rows 19 and 20 (my eyes are 9 stitches apart). You can also go ahead and add the mouth and blush.

– I like to crochet the mustard onto the corn dog at this point. You can sew on your mustard once the corn dog is complete if you’d prefer.

– Start stuffing your corn dog and continue to stuff as you go.

Round 48: *Sc in next 4 sts, dec.* Repeat from * to * around. (30 sts)

Round 49: *Sc in next 3 sts, dec.* Repeat from * to * around. (24 sts)

Round 50: *Sc in next 2 sts, dec.* Repeat from * to * around. (18 sts)

Round 51: *Sc, dec.* Repeat from * to * around. (12 sts)

Round 52: *Sc, dec.* Repeat from * to * around. (8 sts)

Do a color change at this point and use the color “toffee” (light tan) for the stick.

Rounds 53: Sc around. (8 sts)

Rounds 54-62: Sc around. (8 sts)

Firmly stuff the stick, sew the hole closed, and weave in your ends. Alternatively, instead of stuffing with polyfill, you can use a plastic or wooden dowel if you want the stick to be more sturdy.
