Materials:

  • Size 10 Crochet Cotton in desired color, Red Heart Classic Cotton in white was used in the example
  • 1/2 of a cotton ball
  • Size 7 Steel Crochet hook
  • Tapestry Needle for Weaving in ends

Yarn Thickness: 10 thread
Gauge: 8sc = 1"
Finished Size: 4"h x 2¾"w
Skill Level: Intermediate

Special Stitch Used: 

Checker Stitch. Ckr Sc in stitch indicated, while keeping loop on hook, insert hook in same st, yo, and ch3. Yo, pull through both lps on hook, then while keeping the first lp on hook. Pull up a lp in each of the 3 chs, then yo and pull yarn through all 4 lps on hook. Ch1.

Instructions
Starting at top of head
RND 1: Ch2. 6sc in 2nd ch from hook. Join w/slst to first sc.

RND 2: Ch1, 2sc in same st as slst and in each sc around. Join w/slst to first sc. (12sc)

RND 3-5: Ch1, sc in same st as slst and in each sc around. Join w/slst to first sc. (12sc)

RND 6: Ch1, sc in same st as slst. Sk 1 st. *Sc in next sc. Sk 1 sc. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to first sc.(6sc)

RND 7: Ch3. Dc in same st as slst. Dc in each sc around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. (7dc). Yes, 7dc.

RND 8: Ch3, 2dc in same st as slst. 3dc in each dc around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. (21dc)

RND 9: Ch3. Dc in each of the next 2 dc. Dc, ch1, dc in each of the next 5 dc. Dc in each of the next 5 dc. Dc, ch1, dc in each of the next 5 dc. Dc in each of the next 3 dc. Join w/slst to top of ch3. At the end of this round you should have 5dc on one side, 5 vsts on each side and 6dc on the opposite side of the 5dc. The 6dc is the back of the angel. The 5vsts on either side are the shoulders and wing sections.

RND 10: Waist. Ch3. Dc in each of the next 2dc. Sk the next 5 vsts (10dc). Dc in each of the next 5dc. Sk next 5vsts (10dc). Dc in each of the next 3dc. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 11: Skirt: 1ckr, ch1, in each st around. Join w/slst to first sc of first ckr.

RND 12: *Ch5. Sc in next sc. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to first sc.

RND 13: Slst in each of the first 2chs of the first ch5 sp. Slst in same sp. Ch3, 2dc in same sp. Ch1. *3dc in next ch5 sp, ch1. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 14: Slst into the next dc. Ch1, sc in same st. Ch5. *Sc in the 2nd dc of the next 3dc group. Ch5. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to first sc.

RND 15-18: Rep RND 13. & 14 alternately.

RND 19: Slst into the next ch5 sp. Ch3, 6dc in same sp. Sc in next sc. *7dc in next ch5 sp. Sc in next sc. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. Fasten off and weave all ends into back of work. Wings are next.

Wings
ROW 1: Join thread to ch1 sp of first vst of round 8. Ch3, 2dc in same sp. Ch1. 3dc in next ch1 sp, ch1, four times. Ch5, turn.

ROW 2: *Sc in next ch1 sp. Ch5. Rep from * across. Sc in top of ch3. Ch1, turn.

ROW 3: *3dc, ch2, 3dc in next ch5 sp. Sc in next sc. Rep from * across. Sc in top of dc of previous ROW. Fasten off and repeat on other side. Weave ends into work.

Halo:
RND 1: Ch5. Join w/slst to first ch to form ring. Ch4. Dc in ring, ch1, nine times. Join w/slst to 3rd ch of ch4.

RND 2: Ckr in each ch1 sp around. Join w/slst to first sc. Fasten off and weave all ends into back of work.

Finishing: Glue halo to back of head with hot glue or stitch in place with thread. Attach ornament hanger to top of head.
