The Crochet Around Town Beret is a stylish and cozy accessory that adds a touch of handmade charm to any outfit. Made with soft, chunky yarn and easy-to-follow crochet patterns, this beret is designed to fit snugly on the head and feature a slouchy, relaxed fit. The Around Town Beret is perfect for casual daily wear, adding a pop of color and texture to your everyday look. Its soft, breathable fabric makes it ideal for wearing in any season, and its versatility allows you to dress it up or down to suit your personal style.

Skill level: Easy

Size: Teen/Adult - approx. 11” diameter across top.

Stretches to fit 22” circumference at forehead.

Materials:

140 yds. bulky wt. mohair-look yarn (samples shown in Lion Brand Yarns “Jiffy” (blue) and Patons “Divine” (natural & pink)

Size J/10 (6 mm) crochet hook, or size needed to achieve gauge

Tapestry needle

Gauge:

With Lion Brand Yarns “Jiffy”: 10.5 dc & 5.5 rows = 4” on size J/10 (6 mm) hook

With Patons “Divine”: 10 dc & 4.5 rows = 4” on size J/10 (6 mm) hook

Note on sizing: Because Patons “Divine” is more textured than Lion Brand Yarns “Jiffy” and works to a larger gauge, it may result in a slightly larger beret.

Terms/Abbreviations: beginning (beg), chain (ch), decrease (dec), double crochet (dc), each (ea), half double crochet (hdc), hook (hk), increase (inc), loop (lp), repeat (rep), reverse single crochet (rev sc), skip (sk), slip stitch (sl st), stitch (st), together (tog)

Special stitches:

Dc2tog: double crochet two stitches together

Pattern notes:

Beret is worked in the round from center top of crown to lower brim in continuous spiral method. As instructed below, do not join and do not turn at end of rounds. Use contrast yarn marker to keep track of beginning of rounds.

Beret

Rnd 1: Ch 3, work 11 dc in ring (12 dc). Do not join or turn on this and all rounds through Rnd 9. Place contrast yarn marker and carry it up as you work to note beginning of each new round.

Rnd 2 (inc rnd): To begin continuous spiral, dc in 2nd ch of beg ch-3 on Rnd 1, dc in 3rd ch (top) of beg ch-3, *2 dc in next dc, rep from * around, do not join (24 dc)

Rnd 3 (inc rnd): *2 dc in next dc, dc in next dc, rep from * around, do not join (36 dc)

Rnd 4 (inc rnd): *2 dc in next dc, dc in next 2 dc, rep from * around, do not join (48 dc)

Rnd 5 (inc rnd): *2 dc in next dc, dc in next 3 dc, rep from * around, do not join (60 dc)
