To create your crochet sand coasters, you will need the following materials:
- Size H, 5.00 mm crochet hook
- Medium weight cotton yarn (size 4) in 2 colors (A and B)
- Tapestry needle
Abbreviations
- ch - chain
- st(s) - stitch(es)
- sc - single crochet
- dc - double crochet
- sl st - slip stitch
- BLO - back loop only
Note
Ch 3 at the beginning of each round counts as a stitch.
Measurement
The final coaster measures approx. 4″ x 4″.
Instructions
Round 1
Make a magic ring.
Into the magic ring: Ch 3 (counts as first DC), 2 DC, ch 1.
[3 DC, ch 1] – repeat 5 times.
Pull the tail to close the ring.
Sl st to join.
Color Change: To change the color in the next round, insert the hook into the top of the starting ch 3, yarn over, draw up a loop, and when you have 2 loops left on the hook, pull in the new color. Then, cut Color A.
RND 1: (5 ch-1 spaces)
Round 2 (Color B)
Switch to color B, ch 3, 2 DC in the same ch-1 space.
[3 DC, ch 1, 3 DC] – in the next ch-1 space, repeat from * to * 5 times.
3 DC in the first ch-1 space, ch 1.
Sl st to join and change to color A.
Do not cut Color B. Carry the yarn along for easy color changes.
Color Change Tip: When changing colors in the next rounds, work the last stitch until 2 loops remain on the hook. Then pull in the new color. Work the next stitches over it to carry it along.
Round 3 (Color A)
Switch to color A, ch 1.
Sc in the BLO in each st (and ch 1 space) around, sl st to join.
Finishing
Fasten off, weave in ends.
