Crochet Child's Purse

Crocheting a child's purse is a delightful and rewarding project that allows you to create something both practical and cute. The intricate stitches and vibrant yarn colors come together to make a charming accessory that any little one would love to show off. Whether you choose to adorn it with fun buttons, pom-poms, or tassels, the possibilities for customization are endless. Not only will you feel accomplished for making something handmade with love, but the child receiving the purse is sure to treasure it as a special gift that was crafted just for them. Making a crochet child's purse is not just a creative activity, it's a heartwarming gesture that brings joy to both the maker and the recipient.

Supplies:

-Worsted weight 4 yarn

-Size 5mm crochet hook

-Scissors

-Yarn needle

Abbreviations:

ch - chain

sc - single crochet

hdc - half double crochet

dc - double crochet

sk - skip a stitch/chain

Pattern:

Bag Body:

ch 30.

R1: hdc into the third ch from the hook, * ch 1, hdc into the second next chain and repeat from * across. ch 2 turn.

R2-66 : now you should have a line of hdc, ch, hdc, ch across. So now you need to hdc into every ch, and ch over every hdc, across, alternating between as you did in the first row. Its a quite simple technique and creates a more stretchy, and textured looking product.

By now you should have a long rectangle. To seam the purse together, I like to simply sc around, as it looks cleaner and I think makes a stronger seam. So, fold your rectangle in half and sc evenly around the edges, until you have a nice pouch. NOTE! DO NOT cut your yarn here we're not quite done yet.

Next to create the handle. to do so I chained 100, then, joining the end of the chains to the opposite side of the purse, single crochet all the way back to where the chains started. You can make the handle as long or as short as you want, but be sure to securely fasten it to both sides of the purse. Now the body of the purse is done so you can yarn off.

Flap:

ch 3

R1: dc 6 into third chain from hook. ch 2 turn.

R2: dc twice into each of the previous dc. ch 2 turn.

R3-4: dc into the first stitch, ch 1, then dc into the next stitch ch 1, and so on across. ch 2 turn.

R5: hdc twice into each space between the dc. ch 1, turn.

R6(scallops): * hdc, dc 2 in 1, dc 2 in 1, ch (this chain is the end of the scallop, so it should pull it all together) repeat from * across. ch 1.

Now we're going to join the flap to the bag, so sc through both the flat side of the flap and the back side of the pouch to join them together, and voila! you have a cute purse!
