Crochet Cord Basket

Crochet cord baskets are not only practical for organizing your space but also a fun and creative project to work on. The beauty of these baskets lies in their versatility, allowing you to choose different colors and patterns to match your style and decor. With just a crochet hook and some sturdy cord, you can easily create a unique and charming basket that is perfect for storing anything from blankets to toys. Whether you're a seasoned crocheter or a beginner looking for a new project, making a crochet cord basket is a delightful way to add a touch of handmade charm to your home. So grab your yarn and get crocheting!

What do you need to make a basket?

-cotton cord 5 mm in two colours (in my project it’s about 200 metres)
- crochet – you should match it for your comfort, I use 8 mm, but I know some people use 6 and also 10 mm to this type of cord
Size of basket depends on your needs.

Mine is 30 cm high, also botttom diameter is 25 cm.

ch - chain
sc - single crochet
dc - double crochet
inc - increase (2 dc in 1 chain)

BOTTOM:

There is a simple way to make a bottom. Crochet around with double crochets, start every round with 2 chains and close each round with a slip stitch.

1: 12 dc in magic ring (12)
2: (inc) repeat 12 times (24)
3: (1 dc, inc) repeat 12 times (36)
4: (2 dc, inc) repeat 12 times (48)
5: (3 dc, inc) repeat 12 times (60)
6: (4 dc, inc) repeat 12 times (72)
Here I’ve stopped making my bottom, but if you want your basket bigger or smaller, you should just modify this pattern.
Tip: If your bottom isn’t flat, that means your hook size doesn’t fit with cord. You can change the hook or change the pattern, adding more double crochets in each round. Or less if your work Is waving.

WALL STITCH:

Change the yarn colour and start crocheting around the bottom of your basket. In first round make single crochets in all chains (72).

From the second round use this stitch:
1 sc, 1 chain (also skip 1 chain of previous round), 1 sc, 1 chain (another skip), etc…
In next round make a sc in the chain from previous round, than 1 chain (and skip), 1 sc, 1 chain, etc...
HOLDERS:

If you want to make holders to your basket, make a break in the wall stitch. Crochet 9 chains and return to the wall stitch.
You should make holders symmetrically on both sides of basket.
In the next round (it's also the last round of your basket) make single crochets in all chains of holders.

That's all!
