Crochet Rainbow Cake Slice

What you need:

Worsted weight acrylic yarn
white, pink or red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple
Size F (3.75mm) hook
Yarn needle
Scissors
Stiff Felt
Polyester Fiber fill
A word to the wise, may sure all your yarn is a similar weight. The purple I used was thinner than the rest, it made the bottom piece not fit right.

Cake Sides:
With pink or red chain 32
Skip 2 chains and dc into the 3rd stitch from the hook, continue to dc across
Switch color to white, chain 1, sc across row
Switch to orange, chain 2, dc across row

Switch color to white, chain 1, sc across row
Switch to yellow, chain 2, dc across row

Switch color to white, chain 1, sc across row
Switch to green, chain 2, dc across row

Switch color to white, chain 1, sc across row
Switch to blue, chain 2, dc across row

Switch color to white, chain 1, sc across row
Switch to purple, chain 2, dc across row
Finish off, tie off color changes and weave in or cut shorter
(these can be tucked inside while you sc around the edges)

Cake Back:
White
Chain 13, skip first chain and sc into 2nd chain from hook
work 12 more sc rows

Cake Top and Bottom:
Make one white and one purple
Chain 13, skip first chain and sc into 2nd chain from hook - 12st
Chain 1 turn, sc across row -12 st
Chain 1, turn, sc 1, sc2tog, sc across - 11 st
Chain 1, turn, sc 1, sc2tog, sc across - 10 st
Chain 1, turn, sc 1, sc2tog, sc across - 9 st
Chain 1, turn, sc across row -9 st
Chain 1, turn, sc 1, sc2tog, sc across - 8 st
Chain 1, turn, sc 1, sc2tog, sc across - 7 st
Chain 1, turn, sc 1, sc2tog, sc across - 6 st
Chain 1, turn, sc 1, sc2tog, sc across - 5 st
Chain 1, turn, sc 1, sc2tog, sc across - 4 st
Chain 1, turn, sc 1, sc2tog, sc across - 3 st
Chain 1, turn, sc 1, sc2tog, sc across - 2 st
Chain 1, turn, sc2tog - 1 st

Assembly:

With purple- sc bottom to purple stripe
With white- sc top to pink stripe.
Cut two pieces the same size as the sides of the cake from stiff felt.
Slide into cake (this will make the sides stay stiff)
With white- sc back to back of cake. Before closing it up completely, stuff firmly.
For a decorative touch I crocheted along the back edge of the cake top. I did a repeat of hdc 3 in one stitch then slip stitch in the next stitch.
