Abbreviations Used

You will only find the following abbreviations while following the Crochet Keychain Dragon Pattern, and below are the little tutorials for each:

  • Magic Ring(mr): Hold the tail of the yarn in your hand and wrap it around your fingers to form a loop. Slip your crochet hook under the yarn loop, hook the working yarn, and pull it through the loop. Slide the loop off your fingers, ensuring you do not lose the loop off your crochet hook. You’ve now made a magic ring!
  • Single crochet (sc): Insert the hook into the stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over, and pull through both loops on the crochet hook.
  • Half-double crochet (hdc): yarn over and insert the hook into the stitch (where you want to make hdc), yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through all three loops on the hook.
  • Increase (inc): Increase needs to work on specific crochet stitches in the same stitch. It starts with doing two crochet stitches in one stitch. For example, single crochet 1 inc means working two stitches in one stitch.
  • Decrease (dec): It means working a particular stitch incompletely in many stitches and then pulling through the loops at once.
  • Back Loop: When your crochet hook is pointed towards you, the loop far from you is the back loop fo top Vs. Stitching into the back loop only (indicated as “BLO” in patterns) creates a ridge on the right side of the work and is useful for generating textured designs like ribbing.
  • Stitch/es (st)s

Special Stitch To Know:

  • Bobble Stitch (bbl st):

Here is how to crochet the bobble stitch:

  1. Yarn over.
  2. Insert your hook into the stitch.
  3. Yarn over and pull up a loop. (You’ll have 3 loops on your hook now.)
  4. Yarn over again and pull through the first 2 loops. (You’ll have 2 loops on the hook.)
  5. Repeat steps 1-4 four additional times in the same stitch. (You’ll have 6 loops on the hook.)
  6. Yarn over one last time and pull through all loops.
