Stitches/Abbreviations: US Terms
- fhdc – foundation half double crochet
- ch – chain
- sl st – slip stitch
- st(s) – stitch(es)
- sk – skip
- sc – single crochet
- hdc – half double crochet
- dc – double crochet
- tr – treble crochet
- 3rd loop of hdc – behind the front and back loops of the hdc there is another loop in which to work
- treble bobble – tr bobble = [yo twice, insert hook in st, yo and pull through, (yo, pull through 2 loops) 2 times] 5 times total, yo, pull through 6 loops on hook
- picot = (sc in next st, ch 3, sc in the side of the previous sc just made)
Notes:
- Beginning ch stitches do not count as a stitch.
- The main cowl is worked back and forth in rows and then joined. The royal edging is worked in the round.
- ( ) Parenthesis indicates a group of stitches worked into the same st.
Instructions: Royalty Cowl
Row 1: Fhdc 30 or ch 31, hdc in 2ndch from hook and in each across, turn – 30 sts.
Rows 2-54: Ch 2 hdc in 1st, 3rd loop hdc in each across until 1 remains, hdc in last, turn – 30 sts.
Add more rows if you need to adjust the circumference of the cowl.
Join Cowl:
Bring last and first row together, ch 1, sc last and first row together, turn work to begin working along bottom edge.
Edging:
Rounds 1 and 2 need to be in a multiple of 6. When increasing in Round 2 be sure to add
increases in multiples of 6. Round 2 as written has 12 increases.
Round 1: Ch 1, 84 sc evenly around (or in a multiple of 6), join – 84 sts.
Round 2: Ch 1, 2 hdc in first, hdc in next 6, *2 hdc in next, hdc in next 6; repeat from * around, join – 96 sts.
Round 3: Ch 1, sk 1st, *sk next, (sc, hdc) in next, (dc, tr bobble, dc) in next, (hdc, sc) in next, sk 1, sl st in next; repeat from * around, place the last sl st in the first skipped st of the round – 16 tr bobbles.
Round 4: Ch 1, sk st you joined to, *sc in next 3, picot in top of bobble, sc in next 3, sk sl st from previous round; repeat from * around, join – 16 picots.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
