Diamond Brocade Knit Stitch

Knitted brocade is characterized by an allover pattern of slightly raised stitches. This swatch of knitted diamond brocade is a good example of true brocade — as you can see with the raised diamond pattern.

Steps to knit Diamond Brocade Stitch:

Step 1: Abbreviations: k: knit, p: purl, rep: repeat, sts: stitches
Step 2: Cast on a multiple of 8 sts, plus 1 st.
Step 3: Follow this stitch pattern:

Row 1 (RS): K4, * p1, k7; rep from * to last 5 sts, p1, k4.

Row 2: P3, * k1, p1, k1, p5; rep from * to last 6 sts, k1, p1, k1, p3.

Row 3: K2, * p1, k3; rep from * to last 3 sts, p1, k2.

Row 4: P1, * k1, p5, k1, p1; rep from * to end of row.

Row 5: * P1, k7; rep from * to last st, p1.

Row 6: Repeat Row 4.

Row 7: Repeat Row 3.

Row 8: Repeat Row 2.

Step 4: Repeat Rows 1–8 to create the pattern.
