Needles: circular 4 (3.5 mm) 24" (60 cm) and 6 (4.0 mm) 24" (60 cm) and 21" (53 cm) OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE. Cable needle.
Gauge for Broken Rib: 19 x 24 = 4" x 4" (10 cm)
The dress is worked from the hem to the top in rounds without seams.

Directions
With circular needles #6 cast on 172 sts of color A. Place marker for the beginning and join. Knit 86 sts, place the second marker for the center of round, knit to the end.
Next 12 rounds work Broken Rib. Move markers every round to mark the beginning and the center of the round
Round 13: 8 sts broken rib, 12 sts diamond, 10 sts broken rib, 26 sts trellis, 10 sts broken rib, 12 sts trellis, 8 sts broken rib
Work 132 rounds as described in round 13.
Divide for armholes
In the 132nd round: work up to 5 sts before the beginning marker, bind off next 8 sts for underarm
Go on working the 133rd round, work to 3 sts before the central marker, bind off next 8 sts for underarm. Finish the round. There must be 76 sts in the back and 80 sts in the front. Place markers on the first and last sts of the front, on the first and last sts of the back. These will be raglan lines.
Sleeves
With the circular needles #6 (21") cast on 34 sts of color A. Place marker for the beginning and join. Work Broken Rib the next 20 rounds
In the 21st round: 11 sts broken rib, 12 sts diamond, 11 sts broken rib
Increase by 1 st before and after the marker (2 sts in a round) in the following rounds: 22, 24, 26, 30, 34, 38, 42, 46, 50, 54, 58, 62, 66, 70, 74, 78, 82. Make 86 rounds. There will be 68 sts. In the 87th round work up to 4 sts before the marker, bind off next 8 sts for underarm. Place markers at the first and the last sts.
Yoke
With longer circular needles #6:
work across 60 sleeve sts as described in the sleeve section;
across 80 front sts: 27 sts broken rib, 26 sts trellis, 27 sts broken rib;
across 60 sleeve sts as described in the sleeve section;
across 76 back sts - 25 sts broken rib, 26 sts trellis, 25 sts broken rib.
Place markers at the first and last st of every part.
Work three rounds.
In the 4th round: *ssk, work up to 2 sts before marker, k2tog; repeat 3 more times, at each marker - 8 sts decreased in this round.
Repeat decrease by 8 sts in every 4th round: 8, 12 and 16.
Then decrease every other round 20 times: in the rounds 18, 20, 22, 24, 26, 28, 30, 32, 34,36, 38, 40, 42, 44, 46, 48, 50, 52, 54, 56.
At the same time:
Round 17: change to needles #4 and work Rolled Ridge with the color B
Round 18: *k1, p1* to the end. (Remember to decrease - see above)
Round 19: work Rolled Ridge with the color A
Rounds 20-56: color B, needles #6, Broken Rib. (Decrease on even numbered rounds - see above)
Shaping the back neck with short rows:
Round 51: Work to the front, to 5 sts after the left front marker; place a marker. Place another marker 5 sts before the right front marker. Now work back and forth (to the back of the neck) between the new markers.
Round 52: Work the row on the wrong side, making decreases, stop 1 st before the new marker, turn
Round 53: Work the row on the right side, stop 1 st before the new marker, turn
Round 54: Work the row on the wrong side, making decreases, stop 2 st before the new marker, turn
Round 55: Work the row on the right side, stop 2 st before the new marker, turn
Round 56: Work the row on the wrong side, making decreases, stop 3 st before the new marker, turn
