Start and finish every row with 1 selvage st.

1st row (RS): * 1 knit st, 3 purls*; repeat from * to *, 1 knit st;

2nd row: purl;

3rd row (RS): * 1 knit st, 3 purls*; repeat from * to *, 1 knit st;

4th row: purl;

5th row (RS): * 2 purls, 1 knit st, 1 purl*; repeat from * to *, 2 purls;

6th row: purl;

7th row (RS): * 2 purls, 1 knit st, 1purl*; repeat from * to *, 2 purls;

8th row: purl.

Repeat 1st-8th rows.
