Start and finish every row with 1 selvage st.

2^nd row: * slip stitch holding yarn in front, 3 purls*; repeat from * to *;

3^rd row (RS): * 1 purl, 1 knit st, 1 purl, 1 knit st*; repeat from * to *;

4^th row: purl;

5^th row (RS): * 1 knit st, slip next stitch holding yarn in back, 2 knit sts*; repeat from * to *;
