2 strands of sport weight yarn held together or 1 strand of medium worsted weight yarn
Instruction:
Bag:
Round 1: Using the main colour make a magic ring (or) ch 5 and join to form a ring and work 10 hdc into ring. Join with a sl st to the 1st hdc. (10 sts)
Round 2:Ch 1 (does not count as a st), 2 hdc in each st around. Join. (20 sts)
Round 3: Ch 1, repeat [hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st] around. Join. (30 sts).
Round 4: Ch 1, repeat [hdc in next 2 st, 2 hdc in next st] around. Join. (40 sts).
Round 5: Ch 1, repeat [hdc in next 3 st, 2 hdc in next st] around. Join. (50 sts).
Round 6: Ch 1, repeat [hdc in next 4 st, 2 hdc in next st] around. Join. (60 sts).
Round 7: Ch 1, hdc in each st around. Join. (60 sts).
Repeat round 7 until the total height is about 8 inches. Cut off yarn.
Semicircle flap:
Row 1: Using colour A make a magic ring, ch 3 (counts as 1st st), 6 dc into ring. Turn. (7 sts).
Row 2: Ch 3, dc in same st, 2 dc in rest of the 6 sts. Turn. (12 sts).
Row 3: Ch 4 (counts as dc + ch 1), dc in next st, repeat [ch 1, dc in next st] across. Turn.
Row 4: Ch 3, 2 dc in 1st space and 2 dc in each ch-1 space across skipping the dc in between, dc in last st. Turn. (28 sts)
Row 5: Pull colour B through the loop and ch 6 (counts as dc + ch 3), dc in same st, **skip next 2 sts, [dc, ch 3, dc] in the next st** Repeat from ** to ** across. Cut off colour A. Turn.
Row 6: Pull colour A through the loop and ch 3 (counts as dc), **dc in ch-3 space, pick up a bead and insert the hook into its hole and yarn over hook and insert hook into the same space, pull yarn and pull through 2 loops on the hook, yarn over and pull through the remaining 2 loops with the bead at the center, work one more dc in teh same space, ch 1, **3 dc in ch-3 space with bead in the 2nd dc, ch 1** Repeat from ** to ** across, dc in the last st.
At the end of the row do not fasten off, ch 1 and work 28 sc across the flat edge of the semicircle.
Row 7: Ch 1, 2 sc in 1st space before the 1st bead, **sc in space before bead, ch 3, sc in space after bead, sc in ch-1 space** Repeat from ** to ** across the curved part of the semicircle finishing with 2 sc at the end. Fasten off and weave in all the loose ends of yarn.
Strap:
Make chains long enough for the strap, insert hook into the ring of the clasp and pull through the last ch worked, sl st in each ch until the end, insert hook into the ring of the 2nd clasp, pull yarn and sl st in the 1st ch. Fasten off and weave in the ends.
If you wish to make a strap without the clasps just work chs long enough for the strap and work sl st in each ch. Sew both ends of the strap to the sides of the bag.
Finishing
Sew the flap to the bag. Flatten the top part of the bag with the joint at the side keeping the part where the joint is visible as the back and the other side as the front. Place the flat part of the semicircle behind the back part of the bag so that right side of both the bag and the flap are facing each other as shown in the image and sew both the loops of the sts in the flap to the back loops of the sts in the bag. You'll be joining into 30 sts.
Sew the magnetic button to the flap and the bag
Attach the strap to the sides of the bag.
