Crochet Little Elephant

Materials:
~Worsted Weight Yarn
Small amount of lavender (or choice of color for body), small amount of red for hearts
~size F crochet hook
~1 pair of size 6mm solid black safety eyes (if you are unable to find safety eyes at your local craft store, 6060.etsy.com has a large selection to choose from)
~tapestry needle
~fiberfill
Optional Materials:
powder blush for coloring and a small (about 1 inch) piece of white felt for under eyes
Finished measurements: approx 7" long from tip of trunk to back end, 3 and 1/4" tall

Notes and Tips:
Helpful to read these before starting and maybe even again when it's time to put your softie together
~Do not join when crocheting in the round unless otherwise indicated in each individual pattern piece
~A stitch marker will come in handy when repeating rounds or another helpful way to keep track of your rounds is to, start all pieces with a long tail, pull the tail through the beginning stitch of each round.
~Weave in beginning ends after a couple rounds before pieces get to small
~Use a tiny piece of felt under eyes to help them stand out. Cut two small circles (tracing around a button, just slightly bigger than eyes will help make a nice circle). Cut a small slit in the center of the circle, insert eye stem and attach to head.Important note: Do not close the head until you have secured safety eye fasteners.Helpful hint, stuff the head, decide where your eyes and nose should be. Mark position of eyes with a tiny pen mark or hold in place, remove stuffing and secure fastener. Re-stuff and close.

3: working in back loops only for this round, sc in each sc (7)
4-5: sc in each sc, join last sc with sl st. FO, leave a long tail for sewing. Stuff leg, do not close, thread tapestry needle with ending yarn, whip stitch under elephant's tummy (more towards back so elephant can stand).
Tail
1: rejoin yarn with sl st in any center back stitch (sample elephant's tail is about 3 rounds up from closing round), ch 8, FO, leave a little bit of a yarn tail, separate plies to make tail a little frayed.

1: ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook (7)
