Eyes & Snout

This is the time to customize the look of your bunny hat! As you can see, the eyes on my sample hat are simply buttons in the shape of a heart.

Sew on the eyes at Rounds 10 & 11, approx. 7 stitches apart.

Want to crochet the eyes instead? Follow this pattern from one of my pattern testers, Margie! You will need a tiny amount of black and white worsted yarn:

With white yarn, work 8 hdc in magic ring, join and leave a tail to sew on the hat.

With black yarn, Ch 2, work 6 sc in the first stitch. Leave a tail to sew on the white part of the eyes.

For the snout, I used the contrast color in lavender. With a tapestry needle, I stitched a y-shaped nose starting at Round 11. You can do whatever you like!

Bunny Ears (make 2)

  • Always join to first st (not the ch-1) of the round. Always start in same st as join.

With main color (MC), work magic ring, ch 1.

Round 1: Work 6 hdc in magic ring. Join. (6 sts)

Round 2: Ch 1. *1 hdc in next 2 sts, 2 hdc in next st*, rep * – * around. Join. (8 sts)

Round 3: Ch 1. *1 hdc in next 3 sts, 2 hdc in next st*, rep * – * around. Join. (10 sts)

Round 4: Ch 1. *1 hdc in next 4 sts, 2 hdc in next st*, rep * – * around. Join. (12 sts)

Round 5: Ch 1. *1 hdc in next 2 sts, 2 hdc in next st*, rep * – * around. Join. (16 sts)

Rounds 6-11: Ch 1. 1 hdc in each st around. Join. (16 sts)

Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing on to hat.

Fold the bottom sides of each ear so that it meets in the middle. Then, whip stitch together and sew the ears to the top of the hat. Using contrast color (CC) & a yarn needle, stitch a straight line from top to bottom, then repeat as needed.
