Crochet Baby Chick

Materials: Two Lion Brand Jiffy yarns or Red Heart yarn colors.
(One for body color, the other for beak and feet)

Crochet Hook: H/8 size 5.00mm

Extras:
stitch marker
Poly-fill
Yarn needle
One pair of safety eyes

Abbreviations used in this pattern:
ch chain
sc single crochet
st stich
sts stitchs
dec decrease a stitch (*insert hook into next st, yarn over, draw up a loop* twice, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook.)
*repeat directions inside * as many times as indicated


Head/Body:
With body color create a slip ring. Sc in ring to join. Sc 6 additional times in ring. (6 sts)
Round 1 2 sc in each sc around. (12)
Round 2 *2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in next sc* around (18)
Rounds 3 – 8 sc in each sc around
Round 9 *2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in next 2 sts* around (24)
Place safety eyes now.
Round 10 *2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in next 3 sts* around (30)
Round 11*2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in next 4 sts* around (36)
Round 12 *2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in next 5 sts* around (42)
Rounds 13 – 16 sc in each sc around (42)
Round 17 *1 dec, 1 sc in next 5 sts* around (36)
Round 18 *1 dec, 1 sc in next 4 sts* around (30)
Round 19 *1 dec, 1 sc in next 3 sts* around (24)
Round 20 *1 dec, 1 sc in next 2 sts* around (18)
Continue to dec until hole is closed, stuffing the body as you go. Leave a length of yarn and sew securely closed. Weave in loose ends to finish off.

Beak:
With beak color create a slip ring. Sc in ring to join. Sc 6 additional times in ring. (6)
Round 1 2 sc in each sc around (12)
Rounds 2-5 sc in each sc around (12)
Leave a length of yarn to sew beak to body. Lightly stuff the beak with poly-fill. Sew the beak onto desired position on bird.

Feet: (make 2)
Ch 4 (from this point on you will work in rounds)
Round 1 2 sc in first ch, 1 sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next ch, 1 sc in next 2 sts Place sc marker. (8)
Rounds 2-6 sc in each sc around (8)

Leave a length of yarn to sew feet to body. Sew the opening of foot closed. DO NOT STUFF. Next, Sew the feet securely to the body.
