MATERIALS REQUIRED:
DAISY Mercerized Crochet Cotton size 20.
1-skein each No. 26 Lt. Blue and No. 19S Shd. Yellows.
Steel crochet hook No. 13.
Plastic Napkin Holder in butterfly shape size 4¼ x 4½ inches.

Work must be done very tightly or it will be too large for frame. If cro­chet is done loosely, use size 30.

RIGHT TOP WING—With Blue, (ch 6, dc in 6th ch from hook) 11 times to measure 3¼ inches. ROW 2—Ch 5, turn, holding back the last lp of each dc on hook, make 2 dc in 1st lp, thread over and draw thru all 3 lps on hook (Cluster made), ch 2, a 2-dc Cluster in same lp, in each lp across make a 2-dc Cluster, ch 2, a 2-dc Cluster (11 shells). ROW 3—Ch 5, turn, a 2-dc Cluster in ch-2 center sp of 1st shell, then make a shell in remaining 10 shells, a shell in end ch-5. Drop Blue but do not cut. ROW 4—Join Shd. Yellows to ch-5 at start of last row, ch 3, sc in next shell, ch 2, a 3-dc Cluster in next shell, ch 3, a 3-tr Cluster in next shell, (ch 3, a 3-dtr Cluster in next shell) 6 times, ch 3, a 3 dtr Cluster in same shell with last Cluster, ch 3, a 3-tr Cluster in next shell, ch 3, a 3-dc Cluster in same shell, ch 3, 3 sc in end shell. ROW 5—Ch 1, turn, sc in 1st 3 sc, (3 sc in next sp) 3 times, ch 3, a 3-dc Cluster in next sp, ch 3, a 3-tr Cluster in next sp, ch 3, a 3-dtr Clus­ter in same sp, (ch 3, a 3-dtr Cluster in next sp) twice, ch 3, a 3-tr Cluster in next sp, ch 3, a 3-dc Cluster in next sp, (ch 2, sc in next sp) 4 times. Fas­ten off. Edge—Pick up Blue where it was dropped and work sc closely around wing. Join and fasten off. ROW 2—Join Shd. Yellows to bottom of wing next body, (ch 5, sk 1 sc, sc in next sc) repeated around to top next head. Fasten off. Repeat for Left Top Wing, turning wing over before making 2 rows of Edge, starting these rows at top next head.

RIGHT LOWER WING—With Blue ch 2, 8 sc in 2d ch from hook, join with sl st in back lp of 1st sc. Fasten off. ROW 2—Join Yellow to 1 sc, ch 4, dc in same sc, (ch 1, dc) twice in back lp of each sc around. Join to 3d st of ch-4. ROW 3—Sc in next sp, (ch 5, sc in next sp) 16 times. Fasten off. ROW 4—Join Blue to 1 lp, ch 7, a 2-dtr Cluster in same lp, ch 4, a 2-tr Cluster in same lp, ch 3, a 3-dc Cluster in next lp, (ch 2, sc in next lp) 3 times, ch 3, dc in next lp, ch 3, a 3-dc Cluster in next lp, ch 3, a 3-tr Cluster in next lp, ch 3, a 3-dc Cluster in next lp, ch 3, dc in same lp, (ch 3, sc in next lp) twice, ch 3, hdc in next lp, ch 3, a 3-tr Cluster in next lp, (ch 3, a 2-dtr Cluster) twice in next lp, ch 3, a 3-tr Cluster in next lp, (ch 3, a 2-tr Cluster) twice in next lp, ch 3, join to 1st Cluster. EdgeROW 5—Work sc around closely, join and fasten off.

LEFT LOWER WING—Turn circle wrong side facing before making Row 4. Turn again before making Edge Row 5. Lap Top Wing slightly over Lower Wings and tack tog. then work Row 2 of Edge around bal. of each Lower Wing. Tack wings tog. in center.

Working on back of wings with Blue, make ch-6 lps around edge with sc about ¼ inch apart, into Row 1 of Edge. Lace a strand of Blue thru these lps, place butterfly on plastic frame and pull thread taut, then lace it back and forth across back of frame to hold cro­chet firmly in place.

BODY—With Blue, ch 25, 2 dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in next 20 ch, 3 dc in end ch, dc in 21 sts on other side of ch, join to top of ch-3. Fasten off. Sew across between wings with ends cupped over ends of plastic body.

ANTENNAE—With Blue, ch 25, sk 1 ch, sc in next 24 ch. Fasten off. Fold sharply in center and tack fold to head. Tack ends of antennae to Top Wings. Make another butterfly the same way.
