Measurements

16cm/6 1/4in wide and 129cm/50 3/4in long.

Materials

3 x 50g (120m) balls of Sublime Superfine Alpaca DK (100% alpaca)a in Tusk (430).

Size 3.00, 3.50 and 4.00 crochet hooks.

Tension

40 stitches (2 pattern repeats) measure 11cm across and 10 rows measures 10cm in depth, over pattern, using 3.50 hook.

Yarn amount are based on average requirement and are therefore approximate. Instructions in square brackets are worked as stated after 2nd bracket.

To make

With 4.00 hook, make 56ch. Change to 3.50 hook.

Foundation row (right side): Working into the single straight strand at back of chain, work [1dc, 1ch, 1dc] in 2nd ch from hook, *1dc in each of next 7ch, insert hook in next ch, yrh and draw loop through, miss next ch, insert hook in next ch, yrh and draw loop through, yrh and draw through all 3 loops, 1dc in each of next 7ch **, [1ch, 1dc, 1ch, 1dc, 1ch] in next ch, repeat from * once more, then work from * to ** again, [1dc, 1ch, 1dc] in last ch, turn.

1st row: 5ch (counts as 1tr and 1ch), working into front loop only of each st, work 1tr in first st, * 1ch, miss next st, [1tr in next st, 1ch, miss next st] 3 times, tr2tog, 1ch, miss next st, [1tr in next st, 1ch, miss next st] 3 times **, [1tr, 1ch, 1tr, 1ch, 1tr] in next st, repeat from * once more, then work from * to ** again, [1tr, 1ch, 1tr] in last st, turn.

2nd row: 1ch (does not count as a st), working into back loop only of each st, work [1dc, 1ch, 1dc] in first st, * 1dc in each of next 7 sts, dc2tog, 1dc in each of next 7 sts **, [1ch, 1dc, 1ch, 1dc, 1ch] in next st, repeat from * once more, then work from * to ** again, [1dc, 1ch, 1dc] in next st, turn. The 1st and 2nd rows form pattern. Pattern another 125 rows.

Last row: 1ch (does not count as a st), working into back loop only of each st, work [1dc, 1ch, 1dc] in first st, * 1dc in each of next 7 sts, dc2tog, 1dc in each of next 7 sts, [1dc, 1ch, 1dc] in next st, repeat from * twice more. Do not fasten off.

Edging First edge:

1st row: With 3.50 hook and right side facing, 1ch, working into edge st, work 2slst into each dc row-end and 3slst into each tr row-end. Fasten off. Change to 3.00 hook.

2nd row: With right side facing, rejoin yarn in first slst, 1ch, and miss first slst, inserting hook through centre of slst to wrong side of scarf, work [1dc in next slst] to last 2 slsts, [insert hook in next slst, yrh and draw loop through] twice, yrh and draw through all 3 loops. Fasten off.

Second edge:

1st row: With 3.50 hook and right side facing, rejoin yarn to edge of foundation row and work as 1st row of first edge. Change to 3.00 hook.

2nd row: With right side facing, rejoin yarn in first slst, 1ch, miss first slst, inserting hook through centre of slst to wrong side of scarf, work [1dc in next slst] to last slst, 2dc in last slst. Fasten off.

Pin out scarf to correct measurements, cover with a damp cloth and leave until dry.
