Crochet Owl Mug Cozy

Materials & Tools:

  • (2) Buttons of your choice, I believe mine are 7/8”
  • E 3.5mm Hook 
  • G 4.25mm Hook 
  • Yarn in Colors of your choice – I used a light green, dark green, tan and white
  • *for the eye stitching, you can use 2 strands of yarn or embroidery thread.

    • I love Red Heart Super Saver because they come in so many colors 
  • Tapestry needle 

Stitches:

Sl st – Slip Stitch

St – Stitch

Ch - Chain

Sc – Single Crochet

Hdc – Half Double Crochet

Dc – Double Crochet


Mug Cozy Pattern:

Chain 36

Row 1: Hdc in 2nd ch from hook and across, Ch 1n turn (35)

Row 2-9: Hdc across, ch 1, turn (35)

At end of ROW 9, chain 16, sl st to same st, sc down to 2nd to last st, Chain 16, sl st to same st

Attach buttons on opposite size

Feather pattern for chest:

chain 24, dc in 4th ch, skip 4, 2 dc in 4th st repeat

I used this guide to make my owl feather chest.

I made 3 feathers on bottom, 4 feathers for middle and 3 for top (FYI: You start this pattern working from bottom to top)

Wings (make 2):

Chain 10

Sc in 2 ch from hook, sc, hdc, make Dc in next 3 sts, hdc, sc and sc in last st (9)

*now working on opposite side do same as above

Sc, sc, hdc, make Dc in next 3 sts, hdc, sc and sc in last st. (9)

Tie off and leave a tail long enough to attach wing to cozy

Eyes (make 2):

Make a Magic circle

Round 1: Make 6 sc in Magic Circle, sl st to first st, ch 1 (6)

Round 2: Make 2 sc in each st , sl st in first st, ch 1 (12)

Round 3: Make 2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next st, repeat around, sl st to first st (18)

Round 4: Make 2 sc in first st, sc in the next 2 sts, repeat around, sl st to first st (Don’t chain 1) (24)

Round 5: attach tan color – Ch 1, sc in 10 sts, chain 3, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sl st to bottom, sl st and attach to next st, Chain 4, sl st in 2nd ch from hook and sl st down to bottom and sl st to same st

Tie off and leave tail of white to attach eyes to cozy

*Sew on closed eyes or you can make them however you would like

Nose: E Hook

Chain 6

Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc, hdc, sc, sc in last chain

Now working on opposite side

Sc, sc, hdc, sc, sc in last st

Tie off and leave tail to attach nose

**I attached the feather chest first, then Eyes, nose and last wings**
