You’ll need:

600g of Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice – worsted/aran/weight 4/10 ply, 100g/170 yd/156 m;

Crochet hook 6 mm;

2 large buttons;

Measuring tape;

Yarn needle.

Special Stitches

Dc/FPtc2tog: Yo, insert hook in next st, yo and draw up loop, yo draw through 2 loops, yo twice, insert hook around post of 3rd dc 2 rows below and draw up loop, yo, draw through 2 loops, yo draw through 2 loops, yo, draw through 3 loops on hook.

FPtc/tc2tog: Yo twice, insert hook around same post as last FPtc, yo and draw up loop, yo draw through 2 loops, yo, insert hook into next sc, draw up loop, yo draw through 2 loops, yo draw through 3 loops.

Instructions

Ch 12

Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc to end. Turn.

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in BLO in every st across. Turn.

Row 3-193: repeat row 2.

Now we will start to work on the long edge of the ribbing:

Next row: Ch 1, make 193 sc evenly across. Turn.

Next row: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in next 5 sc, *ch 1, skip 1, dc in next 5 sc, repeat from * across ending the row with ch 1, skip 1, dc in last 6 sc. Turn.

Next row: Ch 1, sc in next 6 sts, ch 1, skip ch1-sp, *5 sc, ch 1, skip ch1-sp, repeat from * across ending row with 6 sc. Turn

Next row: Ch 3, *dc/FPtc2tog, dc in next 3 sc, FPtc/tc2tog, ch 1, skip over ch-sp from previous row, repeat from * ending last repeat at dc/FPtc2tog, dc in next 3 sc, FPtc/tc2tog, dc in last st. Turn

Next row: Ch 1, sc in next 6 sc, *ch 1, skip over ch-sp from previous row, sc in next 5 dc, repeat from * across ending row with 6 sc. Turn.

Repeat last 2 rows until you have a width of 18 inches. Add more rows here if you want a wider shawl.

Next row: Ch 2 (counts as first hdc), hdc in every sc and ch1-sp across. Turn.

Next row: Ch 2, hdc BLO across. Turn. Repeat this row a further 8 more times. This will be your neckline so add more rows here if you want a thicker neck line/inner edge.

Fasten off and weave in any ends you may have.

Pockets

Make 2.

Ch 19

Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc to end. Turn.

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in BLO across until 2 sts remain, sc2tog. Turn.

Row 3: Ch 1, sc in BLO in next 3 sts, ch 2, skip 2 sts, sc in BLO in remaining sts. Turn.

Row 4: Ch 1, sc in BLO in next 12 sts, 2 sc in ch2-sp, sc in BLO in next st, sc2tog. Turn.

Row 5: Ch 1, sc in BLO across. Turn.

Row 6: Ch 1, sc in BLO across until 2 sts remain, sc2tog.

Repeat rows 5-6 until 9 sts remain.

Next row: Ch 1, sc in BLO across to end. Turn.

Repeat last row for a further 10 more times.

Now you will be working along the long straight edge:

Next row: Ch 1, sc 29 sts across. Turn.

Next row: Ch 2 (counts as first hdc), hdc in BLO across. Turn.

Repeat last row for a further 18 more times. Fasten off and leave a long tail.

Now you can use your yarn needle and long tail to sew the pocket to shawl. I attached mine two “v’s” up from the bottom but you can attach them where you like.

Next attach your button.

Finally cut a bunch of yarn about 20 inches long. Take 3 strands and fold in half. Feed the loop through a ch2 on the edge of shawl. Pull tight to secure.
