You’ll need:

700g of red Mondial Merinos Extra yarn (50% merino wool, 50% acryl; 245m/100g);

Knitting needles 3 and 4.

Used Patterns

Double rib: cast on the half quantity of sts with contrast yarn;

1st row: with working yarn: * 1 knit st, 1 yarn over*; repeat from * to *;

2nd row: * make yarn over as knit st, slip 1 st as purl without knitting, yarn in front of work*; repeat from * to *;

3rd and all the following rows: * 1 knit st, slip 1 st as purl, yarn in front of work*; repeat from * to *, take off the contrast yarn;

Stockinette stitch: in RS row – knit sts, in WS row – purls;

2 x 1 rib;

2 x 2 rib;

Main pattern: the quantity of sts is multiple 4 + 3, work due to the scheme;

9th row: repeat the pattern from the 1st row.

Repeat motif from A to B for the whole row, make motif from B to C in the end of row;

Cable (22 sts wide): work with stockinette stitch: 13th and 32nd rows: cross 22 sts to the left (leave 11 sts to the auxiliary needle in front of work, 11 knit sts, 11 knit sts from the auxiliary needle).

Stitches control: main pattern: 26 sts x 28 rows = 10 x 10 cm.

Instructions

Back

Cast on 113 sts with knitting needles 3 and make 4 rows of double rib, change to knitting needles 4 and make 56 rows with 2 x 2 rib, decrease 1 x 1 st in every 1st row (= 20 cm). Then, work with the main pattern, decrease 1 x 19 sts in the 1st row and make 1 selvage st as purl from both sides. In 52 cm (148 rows) from rib, bind off 1 x 4 sts for arm-hole chamfers and then decrease 4 x 1 st in every 2nd row from both sides. In 70 cm (200 rows) from rib, bind off the rest 77 sts (20 sts for each shoulder).

Front

Cast on 113 sts with knitting needles 3 and make rib in the same way, as for back. Then, work in the following way, decrease 1 x 10 sts in the 1st row: 1 selvage st as purl, 39 sts with the main pattern, 22 sts of cable, 39 sts with the main pattern, 1 selvage st as purl. In 52 cm (148 rows) from rib, make arm-hole chamfers in the same way, as back. In 62 cm (180 rows) from rib, leave the central 22 sts and finish both sides separately, decrease 1 x 5 sts, 1 x 4 sts and 3 x 1 st from both sides of center. In 70 cm (200 rows) from rib, bind off the rest 20 sts for each shoulder.

Sleeves

Cast on 67 sts with knitting needles 3 and make 4 rows with double rib, change to knitting needles 4 and make 26 rows with 2 x 2 rib, decrease 1 x 1 st in the 1st row (= 10 cm). Then, work with the main pattern, decrease 1 x 15 sts in the 1st row and increase 10 x 1 st in every 10th row. In 40 cm (116 rows) from rib, bind off 1 x 4 sts for sleeve caps from both sides, then, decrease 13 x 1 st in every 2nd row from both sides. In 50 cm (114 rows) from rib, bind off the rest 37 sts.

Assembly

Make one shoulder seam. For collar, cast on 119 sts with knitting needles along the neck-hole line and make 10 rows of 2 x 1 rib. Make 2 purls in every purl of the 11th row, then, make 52 rows of 2 x 2 rib (= 24 cm), make 4 rows of double rib and bind off all the sts with kitchener’s stitch. Make second shoulder and collar seam. Make side and sleeve seams, sew up the sleeves.
