Create Your Own Crochet Drawstring Sunglass Case: Stylish Protection for Your Shades

Ingredients

  • Crochet Hook: H/8-5.50MM
  • Craft Scissors
  • Yarn Sewing Needle
  • Yarn: 1 Skein of each color from Sugar N' Cream
  • Colors: White, Green, Yellow, Hot Pink, Black, Orange

Stitch Guide

  • HDC = half double crochet
  • SC = single crochet
  • SS = slip stitch
  • ST(S) = stitch(es)
  • CH = chain
  • R[number] = Row

The Starburst Light Drawstring Crochet Case

Create Your Own Crochet Drawstring Sunglass Case: Stylish Protection for Your Shades

Using your green skein, follow these steps:

  1. CH 45
  2. Connect the last ST to the very first ST.
  3. Connect the chain by slip stitch, you will be working in rounds!
  4. R1-R11: HDC for all of the Rows into All of the STS, SS at the End of each Row.
  5. R12: HDC into the first two STS, CH 1, Skip 1 ST, HDC into the following two STS, CH 1, Skip 1 ST... [*Repeat method until the very end of the Row, SS to complete entire work.]

Sewing the Bottom of the Drawstring Case

Using your yarn sewing needle, turn the case inside out to sew the bottom of the case securely.

For the Drawstring Chain

  1. CH 67
  2. Insert the complete drawstring through the open stitching from Row 12.

Detailing (Orange/White/Yellow)

Starting with the white yarn, I used my yarn sewing needle and started randomly sewing from the inside of the drawstring case, creating a star by sewing through one ST from the back to the front of an adjacent ST from above. [See photo below for reference.]

The Sun Waves Drawstring Crochet Case

Using the yellow and orange skeins, follow these steps:

  1. CH 45
  2. Connect the last ST to the very first ST.
  3. Connect the chain by slip stitch, you will be working in rounds and switching colors!

Row Instructions

Yellow/R1: HDC the entire row into All of the STS, connect work by SS.

Yellow/R2: HDC into the first 4 STS, into the 5th ST, HDC (3 times), HDC into the following 4 STS, SKIP 2 STS, [for the following 5th and 6th ST]... [Repeat this method until the very end of the Row.] SS to complete work.

Further Color Switching

Switch to orange yarn:

  1. Orange/R3: HDC into the first 4 STS, into the 5th ST, HDC (3 times), HDC into the following 4 STS, SKIP 2 STS... [Repeat until the end of the Row.] SS to complete work.
  2. Continue alternating colors (Yellow and Orange) through R4 to R12, following the same method as mentioned.

Sewing the Bottom of the Sun Waves Case

Using your yarn sewing needle, turn the case inside out to sew the bottom of the case securely.

For the Drawstring Chain

  1. CH 67
  2. Insert the complete drawstring through the open stitching from Row 12.

The Dotted Drawstring Crochet Case

Using your white and black skeins, follow these steps:

  1. CH 45
  2. Connect the last ST to the very first ST.
  3. Connect the chain by slip stitch, you will be working in rounds!
  4. R1-R11: HDC for all of the Rows into All of the STS, SS at the End of each Row.
  5. R12: HDC into the first two STS, CH 1, Skip 1 ST... [Repeat until the end of the Row, SS to complete entire work.]

Using your yarn sewing needle, turn the case inside out to sew the bottom of the case securely.

For the Drawstring Chain

  1. CH 67
  2. Insert the complete drawstring through the open stitching from Row 12.

Detailing with Dots

To create the circles, use the black yarn:

  1. CH 3
  2. SS to connect and SC into the hole six times.
  3. SS to complete work.
  4. I created 8 total circles which I sewed onto the case.

The Hot Springs Drawstring Crochet Case

Using your black, white, and hot pink skeins:

  1. CH 45
  2. Connect the last ST to the very first ST.
  3. Connect the chain by slip stitch, working in rounds and switching colors!
  4. Follow the pattern as previously outlined, switching between Black and White for the first few rows and then Hot Pink for Rows 5-11.

Final Steps

Follow through with R12 by alternating colors and working to complete the drawstring case.

Using your yarn sewing needle, turn the case inside out to sew the bottom of the case securely.

For the Drawstring Chain

  1. CH 67
  2. Insert the complete drawstring through the open stitching from Row 12.
