Explore the Fun and Textured Crochet Bobble Stitch: A Complete Guide to Creating Cozy Projects

Crochet Bobble Stitch is a fun and textured stitch that adds a pop of dimension to your projects! It creates adorable little bobbles that make your work stand out and look super cozy. Whether you're making a blanket, hat, or even a scarf, incorporating the bobble stitch adds a playful touch. Once you get the hang of it, you'll find yourself wanting to bobble everything in sight! So grab your yarn and hook, give this stitch a try, and watch your creations come to life with that extra flair. Happy crocheting, and enjoy bobbling away!

For this tutorial, I used a J crochet hook and some bulky weight yarn.

Note: The crochet bobble stitch is worked over two stitches. If you want to make a full swatch like the one shown, scroll down to see the full written pattern.

Let’s begin, shall we? This stitch is worked on the back of the swatch (also called the “wrong” side of the work) with the bobble popping out to the front of the swatch. The back looks flatter like this:

When you arrive at the stitch where you’d like to place your bobble, wrap yarn around the hook, insert the hook into the stitch, wrap yarn around the hook and bring up a loop,

Then wrap yarn around hook and bring it through the first two loops on the hook (two loops are now on the hook):

Next, repeat this sequence (yarn around hook, bring up a loop, yarn around hook and bring it through the first two loops) until there are six loops on the hook.

Next, wrap yarn around hook and bring it through all six loops on the hook (one loop left on the hook),

In the next stitch, work a single crochet,

This really “pops” the bobble out. If you flip it over, you can see it!

Now that you’ve learned how to crochet a bobble stitch, try the pattern below to make more!

If you’re looking for an all-over bobble stitch swatch like the one shown above, try this!

  • Multiple is any even number of chains (I did a chain 12).
  • Row 1: Work a hdc into the third ch from the hook. Work a hdc in each ch across.
  • Row 2: Ch 3 and turn (counts as a dc), *then work a bobble into the next stitch (see above for detailed instructions). Then work a sc into the next st. Repeat from * across. Work a dc at the end of the row.
  • Row 3: Ch 2 and turn. Work a hdc into each stitch across.
  • Repeat rows 2 and 3 until it is as tall as you like!
