- Medium worsted weight yarn (size 4) in 4 colors, I used I Love This yarn in Linen, Burnt Pumpkin, Terra Cotta and Graphite
- Size I, 5.5 mm crochet hook
- Tapestry needle

Special stitches:
The Herringbone Half Double Crochet (HHDC) is a variation of the traditional half double crochet (HDC) stitch, with a slight twist that creates a slanted, textured look resembling a herringbone pattern.
- Yarn Over (YO): As with a normal HDC, you start by yarning over the hook.
- Insert the Hook: Insert your hook into the next stitch (just like for a regular HDC).
- Pull Through Stitch: Yarn over again and pull through the stitch. Now you should have three loops on your hook.
- Pull Through First Loop: Here’s where the difference lies! Instead of yarning over again right away, first pull the first loop through the second loop on your hook. This slants the stitch and gives it the herringbone effect.
- Complete the Stitch: Yarn over again and pull through the remaining two loops on your hook. You’ve now completed one herringbone half double crochet stitch!

Pattern:
Ch 98 with color A
Row 1: Dc in the 3rd ch from the hk and each ch to end, turn (96).
Row 2: Change to color B, ch 2, dc in each st to end, turn (96).
Row 3: Change to color C, ch 2, hdc in each st to end, turn (96).
Row 4: Change to color B, ch 2, dc in each st to end, turn (96).
Row 5: Change to color C, ch 2, hdc in each st to end, turn (96).
Row 6: Change to color A, ch 2, *sk next st, sc in next, ch 1,* repeat from * to end, turn (96).
Row 7: Change to color D, Ch 1, 2 sc in each sp to end, turn (96).
Row 8: Repeat row 6.
Row 9: Repeat row 7.
Row 10: Repeat row 6.
Row 11: Repeat row 7.
Row 12: Change to color C, ch 2, hdc in each st to end, turn (96).
Row 13: Change to color B, ch 2, dc in each st to end, turn (96).
Row 14: Change to color C, ch 2, hdc in each st to end, turn (96).
Row 15: Change to color B, ch 2, dc in each st to end, turn (96).
Row 16: Change to color A, dc in each st to end, turn (96).
Weave in all ends.
Fold one side over the other to form a V in the front.
Border:
Round 1: Continue with color A to sc evenly around the neck warmer (sc through both sides where they overlap). The number of sc’s doesn’t need to be exact but a multiple of 3.
Sl st in first st to join.
Round 2: Ch 2, hhdc in each st around, sl st to join.
Round 3: *Ch 2, sl st in second ch from the hk, sl st next 2 sts,* repeat from * around, sl st to join,
Fasten off, weave in ends.
