Crochet Christmas Tree with a Star

Crocheting a Christmas tree with a star on top is a delightful project that can bring festive cheer to your holiday decor! You can choose a sparkly yarn for a dazzling effect or opt for a classic green shade for a traditional look. Starting with the base of the tree and working your way up to the tip where the star will shine bright, each stitch adds a touch of handmade charm to your home. This crochet creation not only adds a personal touch to your Christmas decorations but also makes for a thoughtful handmade gift for friends and family members. So, grab your crochet hook, some yarn, and sprinkle a little bit of magic this holiday season with your very own crocheted Christmas tree with a star!

Materials:

  • Green DK yarn – approximately 10g and some yellow DK yarn (I used this yarn pack from Amazon, which has all colours I needed and more for other projects –Korbond Yarn 10 pack)
  • Fluffy white yarn (I used Schachenmayr Baby Smiles Lenja Soft yarn)
  • 3mm crochet hook (look at these amigurumi hooks on amazon 😉)

  • Tapestry needle

Using tapestry needle (or crochet hook) pull yarn through remaining 3 stitches, sew it off with tapestry needle or finish off with sl st using crochet hook, hide the end.

Our basic crochet Christmas tree should look like on the photo below:

Appearance of our crochet Christmas tree

From now on we are going to work on the appearance of our tree.

Do you remember rounds 7, 9, 13, 17, 21, 25 and 29, where we did back loops only? Now we need to attach green yarn to the front loops of these rounds and crochet around each round with this sequence: sc, hdc, dc, hdc, sc, sl st – repeat till the end of each round.

After finishing each round tighten the yarn with sl st and hide the ends. Our crochet Christmas tree should look like that now:

Afterwards, we need to attach white fluffy yarn to the same rounds (7, 9, 13, 17, 21, 25 and 29) and single crochet in each stitch around. When done, finish with sl st and hide the ends:

Crochet star for the top of our Christmas tree

I’m using yellow yarn for our star. Make 2 stars but don’t finish off second one as we are going to sl st them together.

Round 1: 5 sc into magic ring [5]

Round 2: (inc) repeat 5 times [10]

Round 3: (sc, hdc, sc – all in one st, sl st into the next st) repeat 5 times.

It was last round of our star so finish it off with sl st.

Now put stars together and sl st them, stuff slightly with toy stuffing before closing. Finish off with sl st and leave tail for sewing.

Finally, attach star to the top of our Christmas tree
