Crochet A Bee

Materials:

  • Yellow yarn (worsted weight)
  • Black yarn (worsted weight)
  • White yarn (worsted weight)
  • Crochet hook (appropriate size for your yarn)
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle
  • Fiberfill stuffing

Abbreviations:

  • ch: chain
  • sc: single crochet
  • inc: increase (2 single crochet stitches in the same stitch)
  • dec: decrease (single crochet 2 stitches together)
  • sl st: slip stitch
  • st(s): stitch(es)

Bee Body (in yellow):

  1. Magic ring, ch 1.
  2. Round 1: 6 sc in the magic ring. (6 sts)
  3. Round 2: Inc in each st around. (12 sts)
  4. Round 3: Sc in next st, inc in next st around. (18 sts)
  5. Rounds 4-6: Sc in each st around. (18 sts)
  6. Change to black yarn.
  7. Rounds 7-9: Sc in each st around. (18 sts)
  8. Change back to yellow yarn.
  9. Rounds 10-12: Sc in each st around. (18 sts)
  10. Stuff the body with fiberfill.
  11. Round 13: Sc in next st, dec over next 2 sts around. (12 sts)
  12. Round 14: Dec around. (6 sts)
  13. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
  14. Use the yarn needle to weave the tail through the front loops of the remaining stitches. Pull tight to close the opening. Secure and weave in the end.

Wings (in white) – make 2:

  1. Magic ring, ch 1.
  2. Round 1: 4 sc in the magic ring. (4 sts)
  3. Round 2: Inc in each st around. (8 sts)
  4. Round 3: Sc in next st, inc in next st around. (12 sts)
  5. Round 4: Sc in next 2 sts, inc in next st around. (16 sts)
  6. Round 5: Sc in next 3 sts, inc in next st around. (20 sts)
  7. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Legs (in black) – make 2 sets of legs:

  1. Join black yarn to the bottom front of the bee’s body.
  2. Ch 4.
  3. Sl st in the second ch from the hook and the next 2 chs.
  4. Sl st in the next st on the body to secure the leg.
  5. Fasten off and weave in the end.
  6. Repeat this process to create the second set of legs, joining them to the bottom back of the bee’s body.

Assembly:

  1. Position the wings on the bee’s body. Sew them in place using the white yarn and yarn needle.
  2. Using black yarn, embroider two small eyes near the top of the bee’s head.
  3. Weave in any remaining ends.
