Crochet Tweedy Puff Stitch Ear Warmer

Sizing:
- 4 inches wide and as big around as you need it to be.
Materials for the Ear Warmer:
- 1 Ball of Lion Brand’s Tweed Stripes Yarn
- K (6.5 mm) Crochet Hook
- Tapestry Needle
Materials for the Ruffle Flower:
Note: I used Lion Brand’s Hometown USA and 9.0 mm hook for the bottom ruffle flower and Red Heart Super Saver and a 6.0 mm hook for the top flower. However, you can use any of the yarn leftovers you may have on hand. Be sure to check yarn label for hook recommendation.

Instructions for the Ear Warmer:
- Note: Stitch sequence is a multiple of 2 + 4. To make a puff stitch, wrap yarn around hook and draw up a loop (3 loops on your hook), wrap yarn around hook and draw up another loop (5 loops on your hook), wrap yarn around hook and draw up a loop (7 loops on your hook). Wrap yarn around hook one more time and bring it through all 7 loops on your hook. (Scroll down for a more detailed photo tutorial)
- Ch 14
- Foundation Row: In the fourth ch from the hook, work a puff stitch, then ch 1. *Skip 1 ch and in the next ch, work a puff stitch. Repeat from * until you have two ch left on the hook. Skip the second to last ch and in the last ch, work 1 dc. There should be 5 “puffs” on this row.
- Row 1: Chain three and turn. Work a (puff stitch, ch 1) in the top stitch of each puff from previous row, for a total of 5 puff stitches across. Work a dc in the top stitch of the turning ch.
- Repeat row 1 until ear warmer is desired length and comfortably fits around head, accounting for a little bit of stretch. Fasten off and weave in ends.
Puff Stitch Photo Tutorial:
- Wrap yarn around hook.
- Insert into the chain (if working the foundation row) or top of the stitch from puff of previous row (if working row 1) and draw up a loop.
- You’ll now have 3 loops on your hook.
- Wrap yarn around hook and draw up a loop.
- You’ll now have 5 loops on your hook.
- Wrap yarn around hook and draw up a loop.
- You’ll now have 7 loops on your hook.
- Wrap yarn around hook one more time and pull through all 7 loops on your hook.
- Chain 1, then you’re ready to go on!
Instructions for the Ruffle Flower:
- (Make two)
- Chain 6 and join with a slip stitch to form a ring.
- Round 1: Chain 3, then work 11 double crochet into center of ring and join with a slip stitch.
- Round 2: Chain 1 and work 6 single crochet in each space around the entire edge to give it its ruffled appearance. Join with a slip stitch and fasten off.
- Fasten off and weave in ends.
Finishing and Assembly:
- Weave in any ends that remain. Seam ends of ear warmer together. Layer flowers, top with button and sew with tapestry needle to ear warmer using matching yarn.
