Hobbii Friends Cotton Silk Print (DK weight; 77% cotton, 23% silk; 120 m /131 yds per 50 g / 1.75 oz) x 6 (6, 7, 8, 8, 10, 11, 11, 12) balls in Color 04

Pattern Notes

the skirt is worked as a flat panel at first
you will be working the main body of the skirt in rows of hdc tlo stitch which gives it a slight knit-look texture
main body rows will run vertically across the skirt
direction of work is from the waist to knee and back
number of starting chains determines the finished length of the skirt, if you would like to adjust the length, adjust the starting chain to suit
number of rows determines the finished circumference of the skirt, if you would like to adjust the width, you can adjust the number of rows by a multiple of 6 rows. This is to preserve the stitch count needed for the bottom lace trim of the skirt
the top of the skirt is finished off with a waistband which is worked in rows of single crochet through back loop only to pull it in
once you finish the rectangle for the main body, it is sewn or crocheted together to form the skirt
you will leave an opening at the top of the seam to make it easier to put the skirt on
the bottom trim is finished off with a lacy trim which is worked in joined rounds

Finished Sizes

To pick the correct size, please measure your hip circumference at the widest point. The skirt fabric is stretchy and will stretch up to 10 cm/ 4 inches.

You can choose the closest finished skirt circumference measurement in column A for a looser fit. For more fitted look choose up to 10 cm / 4 inches smaller finished skirt circumference than your actual hip circumference.

The model in photos is wearing size 2 skirt with circumference of 87 cm / 34 inches, her actual hip measurement is 96 cm / 37. 75 inches.

The length is easily adjustable by adjusting the number of stitches for the foundation chain. You can add/take away any number of sts to customise the length. The waistband and the lace trim makes up 10 cm/4 inches of total length.

MAIN BODY SKIRT

Chain 81 (81, 81, 85, 85, 93, 93, 93, 93).

Row 1: starting in 3rd ch from hook (first 2 ch counts as hdc), 1 hdc in each ch across, turn. [80 (80, 80, 84, 84, 92, 92, 92, 92). hdc]

Row 2: 1 ch (doesn’t count as a st throughout), 1 hdc tlo across, turn. [80 (80, 80, 84, 84, 92, 92, 92, 92). hdc]

Repeat Row 2 until you have 90 (96, 102, 114, 126, 144, 150, 156, 168, 174) rows in total. Do not fasten off, continue with Waistband.

WAISTBAND

You will be working short rows of sc blo across the end hdc sts of each row to create a waistband.

With yarn still attached chain 6.

Row 1: start working into 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in each ch across foundation chain just made, sl st around body of end hdc, sl st around body of next hdc, turn. [5 sc]

Row 2: 1 ch, 4 sc blo, 1 sc into the last st, turn. [5 sc]

Row 3: 1 ch, 1 sc, 4 sc blo, (sl st around body of next hdc) twice, turn.

Repeat Rows 2 & 3 across to end.

You will create a button loop after completing the last row.

Button loop: 1 ch, 1 sc in next, 3 ch, miss 3 sc, 1 sc in last st.

Fasten off.

Line up the last row with the underside of the foundation chain and sew or crochet the side of the skirt together leaving a 10 cm opening at the top. Turn right side out.

Sew on the button on the opposite side of the waistband to line up with the button loop.

Create a string by chaining 100 sts, fasten off. Tie a small knot on both ends of the string catching the yarn tail end into the knot. Cut the tail ends off.

Alternatively, you can use a piece of ribbon.

Thread the string through the bottom of the side opening of the skirt.

Alternate threading the string through both sides crossing over (same as shoe laces) until you reach the bottom of the waistband.

LACE TRIM

Attach yarn in the side seam at the bottom of the skirt.

Rnd 1: 1 ch, 1 sc in same space, *5 ch, 1 sc into the next top loop of end st (see photo on p.15 where to place the stitches); repeat from * around, omit last sc, sl st into the first sc instead to join round. [45 (48, 51, 57, 63, 72, 75, 78, 84, 87) chain spaces]

Fasten off. Sew in all ends.

The lace trim will benefit from blocking to open up the lace.

The lace trim is worked in joined rounds. Round 2 finishes with dc stitch at the top of the arch. This means you can go straight into working Round 3. Rounds 4 & 5 start with a standing double crochet
