Gauge

Gauge is not important in this pattern.

Size

Using various brands medium cotton yarn, my flowers turn out about 3.2 inches to 3.5 inches (between 8-9 cm).

Supplies

  • Yarn: small amount of Medium 4 Cotton yarn in 2 colors, one for the flower center (color A) and one for the petals (color B)
  • 3.5 mm crochet hook
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors

Stitches, Terms (US) and Abbreviations

  • ch: chain
  • sc: single crochet
  • slst: slip stitch
  • tr: treble crochet
  • yo: yarn over

(...) repeat the sequence included in the brackets the number of times specified in the pattern.

[...] repeat the sequence included in the square brackets the number of times specified in the pattern.

*to* repeat the sequence included between the asterisks.

Special Stitch

tr cluster or tr4tog or triple 4 together: [yo twice, insert hook in the stitch indicated in the pattern, draw loop through, (yo, draw through 2 loops, leaving the next loops on the hook) X 2 times] X 4 times.

You have 5 loops on the hook; yo, draw through all 5 loops on the hook.

(In other words, you will make 4 unfinished treble crochet, leaving each time the last loop on the hook, so at the end you'll have 5 loops on the hook; yo, draw through all 5 loops on the hook.)

Instructions

Start with the Flower Center

Using yarn color A, ch 4, join with sl st into a ring.

Ch 4, work (1 sc into ring, 3 ch) x 5 times, ending with a sl st into the first ch of the ch 4 at the beginning of the round.

Cut yarn. Fasten off.

Note: The ch 4 at the beginning of this round counts as one sc and ch 3.

Petals

Join yarn color B with slst into a ch 3 loop of the center and work the first petal this way:

4 ch, tr 4 tog in same ch 3 loop, work 3 ch then slst to top of the cluster, 4 ch, slst into same ch loop.

To work the next petal, *slst to next ch loop and repeat as for the first petal: 4 ch, tr 4 tog in same ch 3 loop, work 3 ch then slst to top of the cluster, 4 ch, slst into same ch loop*;

Repeat from * to * for the next 4 petals, ending with slst in the first ch of the ch 4 at the beginning of the first petal of the round. (6 petals made!)

Cut yarn. Fasten off. Weave in the ends.
