Materials Needed
I used about one and a half skeins of Simply Soft in Soft Pink with a J hook.
Crochet Instructions
Base Rows
Ch 5, dc in 1st ch (this forms a "point")
Row 1: ch 3, turn, dc, ch 1, dc in the point.
Row 2: ch 3, turn, (dc, ch 1, dc) in ch 1 sp, ch 1, (dc, ch 1, dc) in next ch 1 sp
Row 3: ch 3, turn, (dc, ch 1, dc) in ch 1 sp, *ch 1, dc in next ch 1 sp; rep from * to end to last ch 1 sp, (dc, ch 1, dc) in last ch 1 sp
Rep row 3 until desired size.
Without cutting the yarn, work the edging along the 2 sides of the shawl.
Edging Rows
Row 1: ch 1, turn, sc along edges. (3 sts per dc, and 9 sc in the beginning point)
Row 2: ch 5, turn, sc in 3rd sc, *ch 5, sk 2 sc, sc in next sc; rep from * across to point, (only sk 1 sc, ch 5, sc in next sc) three times, then continue with * to end across to end of row
Row 3: ch 5, turn, sc in 1st ch 5 sp, *ch 1, (dc, ch 1) 6 times in next ch 5 loop, sc in next ch 5 loop, ch 5, sc in next ch 5 loop; rep from * to end until end of row
Row 4: ch 1, turn, sc in 1st ch 5 loop, *ch 2, (dc, ch 2) in each of the 6 dc from previous row, sc in ch 5 loop; rep from * to end until end of row
Row 5: ch 1, turn, sc in 1st ch 2 sp, *(sc, ch 3 sc) in each of the 5 ch 2 sps, sc in each of next 2 ch 2 sps; rep from * to end of row
Fasten off, and weave in any remaining ends.
You may have to mess around with the edging, depending on how many rows you have. Just do whatever looks right at the point!
Final Touches

The ruffled edging adds about 3" to the sides of the scarf. Total, the shawl is about 30" from the top to the bottom point, and 65" along the top edge.
