Notes

We’ll be working with 4 different colors of yarn for each motif. Starting from the center and working out, we’ll refer to them as Colors A, B, C, and D.
Color A. Magic circle or ch 4, sl st in first ch to form a ring

R1: Ch, 12 sc into ring, switch to Color B on the last st, sl st to join. Fasten off Color A. (12)
R2 Color B : Ch 3 (does not count as dc throughout), 3 tr in next st, ch 3, *sl st next 2 sts, Ch 3, 3 tr in next st, ch 3, rep from * around, sl st in last st. Fasten off Color B. (4 petals)



R3 Color C, Attach to last completed sl st: *Ch 3, (hdc, ch 1, dc, ch 1) in the top of the ch-3 from R2, 2 tr in next st, ch 1, 3 tr in next st, ch 1, 2 tr in next st, ch 1, (dc, ch 1, hdc) in the top of the ch-3, ch 3, sl st between the 2 sl sts from R2, rep from * around. Fasten off Color C.

R4 Color D Attach yarn to the dc on the left side of any petal: Ch 3, dc in the next dc st on the next petal (see reference picture below), ch 5, *sk 5, (dc2tog, ch 2, tr2tog, ch 2, dc2tog) in next st, ch 5, sk 5, dc2tog over the next 2 dc sts (the one on the left side of the current petal and the one on the right side of the next petal), ch 5, rep from * around, sl st to join.





R5: Ch 1,*sc, 5 sc in ch-5 sp, sc in next st, 2 sc in ch-2 sp, 3 sc in next st, 2 sc in ch-2 sp, sc next st, 5 sc in ch-5 sp, repeat from * around, sl st to join. Fasten off Color D.

Finishing Touches

To complete your Granny Square Flower, fasten off the yarn and weave in any loose ends using a tapestry needle. You can also block your flower to give it a neater and more polished look.
