Materials

Yarn – Any DK weight yarn of choice.

Stylecraft Special DK, #4 (100% Acrylic, 116 yards/106 m per 1.8 oz/50g Skein)

Estimated Yardage

White = 10 yards, Red = 5 yards for one heart

Hook and other materials

  • 4 mm Crochet Hook
  • Yarn needle

Gauge

14 sts over 9 rows = 10 cm square/4” made in dc

How to Make a Crochet Heart Envelope Gift Card Holder

Section 1: Envelope

With White yarn

Chain 22

Row 1: hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn. 20 hdc

Row 2:Ch 1, hdc in first st, xhdc across until the last st, hdc in last st, turn. 9 xhdc, 2 hdc.

Rows 3 -14: Rep Row 2

Row 15: Ch 1, hdc in each st across, turn. 20 hdc

Edging

Crocheting around the whole panel, ch 1, hdc in each st, (hdc, ch 2, hdc) at each corner.

Fasten off.

To sew the envelope:

Turn the panel to the wrong side.

Step 1: Fold the left corner of the bottom corners midway.

Step 2: Fold the right corner to meet the

corner from the bottom.

Step 3: Sew the sides of the two corners from the tip towards the corners.

Step 5: Fold the right corner of the upper end to meet the bottom corners.

Step 6: Continue the sewing from the sides to the end.

Step 7: Sew a heart to the point where the corners meet.

Turn the piece to the right side.

Set aside and make the heart.

Section 2: Heart

With Red yarn

Round 1: In a MR, ch 3 (counts as first dc, here and throughout), 2 dc, (ch 3, 3 dc), rep () 2 more times, ch 3, join with a sl st to the beginning Ch. 9 dc, 4 corners

Round 2: ch 3, 7 dc in next st, sc in next ch 3 sp, skip next st, 8 dc in next st, sc in next ch 3 sp, sc in next 3 sts, (sc, dc, sc) in next ch 3 sp, sc in next 3 sts, sc in last ch 3 sp, join with a sl st to the first ch from the beginning ch 3. 17 dc, 11 sc

Fasten off.

Place the heart on the part where the 3 corners met when sewing.

Optional

  • Chain 22, sl st in each ch, slip stitch to the base of the heart.
  • You can repeat this with 2 more hearts and sew to the base of the envelope.

Sew the heart to the envelope.
